New AMD machine what is the quitest heatsin/fan I can get that performs well

I am building a new machine, and I was wondering what the quietest heatsink/fan that I can get is for a 1.333 Oem T-Bird. I would like something that actually keeps it cool though.

Here is the config
AMD T-bird 1.333Ghz OEM
MSI K7 Master
256MB Crucial PC2100
40GB WD Hard Drive 7200
Geforce 2 GTS 32MB
Toshiba 16X DVD
Plextor 12/10/32
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Chen Ming ATX-601AE w/2 panaflo 80mm L1A's (Same case as the Antec SX1030)
Sparkle 400W power supply
 
Nice setup...but you're gonna only get the best cooling if u get a fan that will make a lil noise. For example...delta fans have the best performace but ppl complain that they are loud. I have a swiftech mc-462a with a sanyo delki fan...it's a lil loud but after a week or two...you get used to it and u don't really notice. Looks like ur a gamer anyways...so who cares about a lil extra noise...if u ask me i'd rather go for something that does what HSF's are built to do...and that is optimize cooling. If you're gonna spend the $$$...might as well get something that can cool the best. No OCing...it looks like u could OC w/ that setup.

TomsHardware.com has a great comparison of 46 coolers. Check it out (somewhere under the CPU Guides there). Whatever people think about Tom, some of his reviews are great, incl. this one.
 
Care to explain how this review is so great?

It uses the crap socket-thermistor in all its tests, only talks about raw temps and not temps over ambient... Its a comparison that is already screwwed because socket-thermistors are completely crap for comparison purposes.

On top of that to make it even worse he slaps vibation pad under his CPU, which does insolate heat alot.
 
I recomend the Thermaltake Volcano II. It is AMD aprooved up to 1500MHz. It is not the best cooler, but it does the job and it is quieter then my case fans. If I didn't have the RPM meater on the motherboard, I might think that it wasn't on. Wery quiet.
 
I have used the volcano II on previous systems and it seems to be a little loud. Also it doesnt seem to do the best job at cooling either.
 
I am ordering a Thermalright SK6 tomorrow from inflowdirect.com and have the same question you have. They (inflowdirect) told me for a 1.33 to get either the loud Delta (36CFM) or the quieter Delta (30CFM). I had asked about the Sanyo (which I assumed is the Sanyo Denki Pico Ace, but not sure) and they said not enough for a 1.33, and I am not sure why. What info is correct?

hi shide1, i'm building an AMD system, and want the same thing. Right now, I have a Thermaltake Volcano II, which keeps my 1 ghz @ 120F under load, but not too quiet. I just placed an order for a Taisol 742092, which i've read provides great cooling, with a low noise slim line delta fan... plus if you need more cooling power, you can put a bigger fan on it...

Tom's HSF review was absolute tripe. Look at HSF reviews from anandtech, frostytech, and 2cooltek, and compare the results to Tom's. For a quiet cooler...the Noise Control Silverado, as previously mentioned...the Taison CGK760092 with stock fan...Swifttech MC370(or Kdcomputers.com CPC-370) with a quiet adda fan...
 
fan on top says 12v 3.2W (Watts is correct it is not Amps) GM1206PTBZ-AF plus it gives you resisters that can lower the fan speed

it runs a steady 5000+ rpm with out any resister leads and I am running a 1.4 @ 1.5 right now
 
Watercooling...

Especially if you want quiet...and whatever rad you get, use a baybus to knock the speed of the fans down when you aren't really taxing the cpu, then set em to 12v when you are gaming or doing any other cpu intensive task (and you wont even notice the fans)

Good setup is a DangerDen cooling cube with a 120mm high cfm fan (whatever brand you prefer, i like panaflos and deltas)

A baybus is great to control the noise/air flow level for all the fans in your system.

Shide1, if the Volcano II was too loud for you then I strongly recommend that you don't get the FOP 32-1. It's even louder. Hopefully Asiantin can let us know how the Taisol he's getting compares. I'm looking at exactly the same thing.

I have to agree that the Tom's review that favors the Silverado seems a little skewed. Most people seem to never have actually run one, but recommend them based solely on that review. Another review that I read put it pretty low in the performance area, and the quiet operation is really just a voltage hack. Lower the voltage, the fans spin slower, the fans are quieter, but less cooling. You can do this with any HSF.
 
Not sure if this is the quietest, but the Millenium Glaciator is pretty quiet in my opinion. It works pretty well too, just not as well as a Thermoengine 🙂
