New AM2+/AM3 mobo.

I need to find/buy a new mobo for my friend's computer, the old MSI K9A2 Platiunum has been nothing short of a disaster. Random freezes, 5-10 sec freezes in games, now and then. Sometimes when you start the computer there is only a text string in the upper left corner. Looks like it's from the gfx card (Gecube 3870X2). Tried Vista 64, and old XP, same mess. sometimes it works ok, but most of the time it doesn't. :frown:

CPU is a Phenom 2.5Ghz BE 9850, PSU is Corsair VX 550w.

So now I need a Gigabyte or ASUS mobo that is really solid, don't have to be the fastest, nor fancy. Maybe something with AMD 770 or 790X?

Some tips/recommendations please. 😉

What do you think about:

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3, Socket-AM2+/AM3
AMD 770+SB700, ATX, DDR2 , Firewire, GbLAN, PCI-Ex(2.0)x16

or

Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4, Socket-AM2+/AM3
AMD 790X+SB750, DDR2, ATX, GbLAN, Firewire, 2xPCI-Ex(2.0)x16

I've been seeing some complaints about the Gigabyte UD3/4 series. You may want to search around and see what the issues are.

Biostar, Foxconn and Asrock all make good AM2+ motherboards.

Foxconn? Don't know if they are avail here in Northen Europe. Asrock is made ni ASUS plants, no? 😛
