gaim or Trillian are both barely acceptable alternatives. I've *never* been able to get file transfers or direct connections to work with gaim. Trillian has improved a lot with respect to direct connections and file transfers... it works almost all the time. One user in particular (who claims that his is the only properly secured computer I've ever connected to... which wouldn't surprise me) occasionally has difficulty when trying to send me files while I'm using Trillian... but it works sometimes with him, and sometimes it doesn't. It appears to be rather random. <shrug>

I would personally love to drop Trillian + AIM in favor of gaim, but its two aforementioned problems prevent that.
 
I just use deadaim with the latest compatible AIM. The newer AIMs have way too much junk for me to appreciate.

Trillian users, is trillian able to view hyperlinks in profiles now? Or does it still come up as only text

i agree on all accounts
 
i got tired of all the aim clones.. i'm a profile whore, so that hurts all other clients pretty much. Trillian's minibrowser plugin has irked me enough, so back to aim + aimlog manager.
 
I tried the triton thing for like 2 days...I DESPISED it. I found the interface to confusing and clunky, if I remember correctly the ad placement on it was bizarre, the IM screens were too 'busy'. I just did not like it at all. If they ever actually switch over to Triton for future versions I'm just going to keep an old copy of AIM or switch to MSN or Yahoo.

For all the folks who actually use more than AIM, like MSN and Yahoo and ICQ and IRC, Trillian's the only way to go. One single app to handle all the major chat clients.

Trillian rocks.
 
aim 5.9.3702 + aim ad hack 4.02

tried the new aim.. I found it to be ugly and the anti-aliased text bugs me.

I despise the new AIM Triton, everything about it is annoying. I used classic AIM, then switched to Triton for about a week. I am now a loyal GAIM user, and will forever be.

?? I don't know a single person who can get file sharing to work with trillian, even to other trillian users....

I've been using it for years. It takes a few seconds to connect, but I can transfer files just fine. AND profiles work including mine.
