im just saying.......you probably bought a shotgun b/c you dont need a license and can walk out of walmart/sports authority with one upon making the decision you want a gun.

now just replay what happened to you at the door. where will the shotgun be? can you get to it? will it be loaded and ready?

you have to ask yourself, will the next time happen the same? will he get in? will he grab the shotgun when i pull it? will he take it from me and turn it on me? etc.

then if you want to even think about if you shoot someone, will you get charged? jail time? just things to think about especially depending on the state you live in.

if i had to recommend anything it would be a handgun, probably the small Glock. maybe even a tazer but I'm not familiar with them.

But in all honesty, if you were to do ANYTHING, keep a Louisville Slugger near the door and your cell phone. Some things should just be left to the police. First and foremost protect yourself and secondly be the best witness you can giving the police something to work with. You dont know how many times someone is asked "what did he look like we'll put out a notification" and the person says, "He was tall" and thats it.

A new family member? I was expecting a picture of a pet or a child. I don't get it. I own 8 long guns but I would not call them family members.

You're trying to impress us?

You want a medal?

Honestly, for home defense like he was describing he'd be much better off with a well trained dog.

Its my first gun, im not flexing my e-peen i just know alot of people on the forums have guns and always post when they get new ones. and its more for if i hear someone breaking into my house. i have a bat near the door, but people wont stop coming into your house if you have a bat. but ill be more carefully when i open the door next time, and yes i already picked out a nice little hiding spot for it behind the couch that is easy to get too.

and yes i know my sheets were bad but they were a gift so i feel bad not using them.

EDIT: and I went to a small shop that is near the apartment because they were a lot more helpful, i would never go to a sports authority to buy a gun.

wouldn't that money be better spent on a bedframe or just moving so you nightstand isn't pushed against your mattress? I am thinking the cops probably were right in their take on this.

A bat would probably be better for answering the door. You going to have it cocked, ready and presented for each door knock?

I don't want to be the idiot that brings a baseball bat to a gun fight. Incidentally my parents just picked up a Glock 19C

Shot gun won't work in the situation where you're in the door, but if someone does break in, it will get the job done. Also in virtually all states you're protected under the castle doctrine.

Hope the first shot is a good one if it's at night, because they'll be blind after that.

Actually the more I think about it, I don't think it's the compensated model. I was going off of what they told me, but the slide definitely didn't have any port holes on top.

This makes the thread about the fish as a new addition to the family look like a great success.

Can I just buy a bb-gun and use that as protection? A few rounds or 10 would surely get the guy to run not knowing what the pellets really are yah? I'm being serious - there's no way I can get a permit for a real gun in NY.

btw, what did the guy say to get you to open the door?

if you want the big story, he is a punk kid who lives up the street, he rang my door bell so i came downstairs and he said he wanted to talk to me, i opened the door and he asked if i threw a beer bottle at him, of course not i was watching a movie with this girl i invited over for dinner, i tried to shut the door on him after saying it wasnt me and he but his arm in through the door to try and come in and rammed the door into my face, i then proceeded to ram the door 2 times into him to get him to let go of the door frame that he was grabbing onto in order to try and force his way into my house. i opened the door a third time and kicked him in the shins. he fell over and off my door step so i was able to close the door on him. i locked my deadbolt and held the door shut until he stopped pounding on it. i called the police and they said he denys that any of this happened, i showed them the sweat on the door from his head, and asked them to check his right shin for a bruise because i play soccer so there is no way he wouldnt have a bruise on his shin. They asked to search my house and i refused and the policeman asked why, i said it was because i am protected under the 4th amendment of the constitution against un-waranted searches and seizers of my property. He told me that "if i am not going to cooperate in the investigation i should not have fucking called the police in the first place" I asked him to please not curse at me and that i called the police for protection because i shouldnt feel threatened in my own home, i asked him for his name and badge numbered and he said im fucking done here, he got his partner who was waiting outside and they left. i called the colorado advanced patrol and reported the incident (the neighborhood protection people) and they were able to identify the guy withouit me describing him, he said he would call the lakewood police and see what they had and alert the home owners association about it. The next day (today) came and I went to Dean's Firearms and bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 security shotgun for $225 USD.
