i thought ati was before nvidia with rage fury maxx.

3dfx was first with sli :p

ATi evidently dropped research into multi-GPU after the MAXX failed miserably ... they apparently got back into in it right after NVIDIA announced the "new SLi" ... ATi's first attempt after this - a year later - with multi-GPU was also CRAP - x800 series ... no one knows even WHY they bothered with it ... hanging dongles and limited resolutions

But the performance was outstanding, specially with the X850 series because the X800 Crossfire coreclock was much lower than the XT or PE. I don't remember if it was a X800 vainilla with 12 pipes or X800XL.

x1800xt Crossfire was a decent step up over x800 Xfire .. and x1950 finally started playing 'catch up' with nvidia ... by 3XX0 series, AMD is Ahead [imo]

I'm almost certain the limited resolution issue is still there, just that it's much less limited now to the point that most people don't need to worry about it. Still a bit too limited for me though, over a single card anyway.

Well I just said is that the performance was nice, was able to get quite close to the 7800GTX 256 in SLI, I didn't mean that I liked, cause it's 1600x1200@60Hz limitation and the dongle thing.
