Hmmm, one thing that got me thinking is, if it's slated for launch at 18th of march, HOW is nvidia still determining the clockspeeds ? Shouldn't the videocards allready be assembled, packaged and being shipped as we speak ? Or how long does this usually take ?

And, we all know ATI usually scores better in 3dmark then we would expect them to compared to games. So 9800gx2 might have something going for it, although with it's ridiculous heatoutput and powerdraw it's probably still going to be a madmans card. Can't wait for the first real reviews to hit the net.

That's pretty exciting to finally have some substantial numbers for the card, even if they aren't "real world". Thanks for the link!

Nvidia's alleged indecision as to what the clock speeds should be tells me that, wow, they need to get their shit together. :)

You said it. :) Wow, let the speculation begin. I don't see this being anything close to real world. If it is, good for AMD. I guess we'll see what happens when these guys put the real world Silicon on the skulltrail and let it go balls out. :)

does the 174.16 forceware work on 8800's? Wonder if it fixes some of the old game issues that 169 broke. (Thief 1 and 2 for example)

well, 3870x2 is having heat problems already. fortunately for amd, they had the 2900xt to teach them how to make good coolers ;) 9800gx2 really looks to be a tough card to justify, especially with gt200 on the horizon already. You will be able to buy a 9900 ultra or whatever in 6 mos that has similar/better performance with much better thermals. remind me to keep my 19" widescreen monitor and be happy!

1. you have to download the driver exe and the modded nv4disp.inf file

2. extract contents of driver to folder

3. copy modded inf file to contents of driver folder.

4. run setup.exe from folder.

Or, alternatively download the package from guru3d.com which includes the modded inf file and has a link to 174.20 WHQL vista 64bit.

Can't see this being true. An 8800GT scores higher than a HD 3870 in 3DMark 06, and the 9800GX2 is supposed to be two G92 cores w/ full 128SP. Unless crossfire is scaling better than SLI, I don't see how the HD 3870 X2 could end up faster.

Even if crossfire scaling is better... we already know SLI 8800GTS beat the HD 3870X2, I don't konw why anyone doubts the superiority of the 9800GX2.

Are those beta 8.3 or 8.4 xfire Cats they are running on the 3870 X2? There is quite a speed bump from 8.2 (which a lot of you are basing your comparissons of excisting knowns on) and the 8.3 beta Cat driver.

3dmark is extremely CPU limited at default settings with these video cards. Not only is the CPU score a factor in the score, the game tests themselves are CPU limited at 2.67 Ghz. I think the Canyon flight is the least CPU bound, so any increase in GPU power shows up there the most easily.

8800gts 512 has higher default clocks than 9800gx2, so sli 8800gts 512 should be quite a bit faster. also, if 3870x2 is any indication, it will probably be tough to get much of an oc out of a 9800gx2.

This better not be real world performance for 9800gx2 that card is essentially no improvement over single gpu solution. But I think this test may be CPU limited somehow. I hope so for Nvidia's sake. theis 9800 X2 don't look too hot at all.

3dmark really isnt a good indicator for performance seeing as the HD2900XT was faster in that synthetic benchmarking software compared to a GTX/Ultra. Yet in real world figures, its barely faster than the 8800GTS 640mb.

3DMark or not, I really don't have much hope for the 9800 GTX to be honest. To me it looks like nothing more than a respin in order to support Tri-SLI.

Ok so the facts are:
1. This info comes from a 3rd party.
2. It validates what tulip said
3. It was taken on the exact same CPU as tulips benchmarks

as shown in those links for her g200 benchmarks.

I got a very strong feeling that the 3rd party here is... *drumroll* TulipGTX?
That doesn't mean its necessarily false, tulip might be right on the money. But I am just making a guess here about who their 3rd party source is.
