New 9800 pro, tips?

I just stopped at newegg.com, and low and behold, somehow my package is due to arrive tomorrow 🙂...I am upgrading from a ti4400. Basically, I know about the install procedure (uninstall drivers, turn off, put in new card, boot, cancel windows xp (home) driver install, then install ATI drivers), but does anyone have any tips or recommendations as far as settings or making the install as clean as possible?

Ain't it a beautiful thing 😉. I couln't afford a pro though, had to get a np and overclock to pro speeds

I bought the sapphire radeon 9800 non pro from newegg. They tend to come with samsung ram chips that provide the best overclocking results. My ram maxes out at pro speeds of 340 mhz, but my core overclocks very nicely. The pro runs at 380mhz core and mine runs with absolutely no problems at 430mhz. If yours can hit close to 340mhz on the ram and has samsung ram, it will run fine if you flash it to pro bios.

My thoughts exactly 🙂...This is really the first serious graphics card I have had. I got the Mx420 a little after it came out, but that was crap, and I got the ti4400 well after the 9700 pro came out, as at the time I was not nearly as educated in this area as I am now. I'm happy, is what I'm trying to say 🙂...
 
Depending on your gaming res, I would max all detail levels up in the ATI control panel. I had a Ti-4400 running at 1024x768x32 on all my games.

But with my ATI 9800 NP, I can play at the same res but full AF+AA with no slowdowns.

I still use my GeForce4 Ti-4400 and GeForce2 Pro for testing and compatibility on different setups.

Just a heads up... I did nearly the same upgrade (GF4-4200 > Radeon 9800) and ran into problems. You can check my long thread in this forum for a lot of helpful info and excellent advice by our forummates. I hope your upgrade is easier than mine. 😀
 
Increase in performance 9700 PRO vs 9800 PRO. I traded in my 9700 PRO and got 210 for so I only had to come out of pocket 175. I will now be in a better position to upgrade to 9900 PRO (360) if they bode well if not I will keep my 9800 PRO. It now has better resale value than the 9700 PRO.

Dude..you don't make any sense. Of coure it has a better resale value, but look how much more you spent to get it! So..lets recap this:
Bought 9700 Pro for ~$280
Traded in for ~$210
Cost to upgrade to 9800Pro ~$175
Total money "lost" in upgrade ~$245

You do realize that you will lose money on the 9800pro when the 9900 comes out too right? Enough to make the purchase of the 9800 Pro pointless.

I didn't think the point was hard to find. He was trying to say that by gettin the 9800 Pro now it will be chaper to upgrade to the 9900 Pro if he wants to. I disagree. Its that simple. Of course he isn't spending my money. I was just trying to point out that I doubt it is cheaper in the long run to get the 9800Pro now.

And why the hell do you care? Are you angry because you did the same thing, or what? I wasn't trying to attack 1ManArmy. Infact, I am jealous, a 9800 Pro would be kickass to have, but to upgrade to one from a 9700 IMO seems like a waste. Thats all. Now, what the hell is the point of your post you grinning idiot.
 
Don't sweat the small stuff!
I got the 9800 PRO because it was the card I originally wanted 5 month's ago but they weren't in wide release so I settled for the 9700 PRO. I'd rather spend 175 for it than 385 or 399 what ever the original price was.
I am satisfied! The Call of Duty demo rocks with this card.
