new 850pro firmware update possible without magician ?

I just purchased a 512GB 850pro (havn't installed it yet).
As a linux user who don't own windows, i'm seeing that they pulled the bootable iso and the linux version of magician after the 840 series.
Am I just sad out of luck here if I need a firmware upgrade ?

I don't think they will ever release a firmware update for the 850.

They work fine as-is.

I don't think they release the ISO's anymore, which is a bit of an oversight as clearly not everybody uses Windows.

thanks,
I just put my steam games on it.
I couldn't muster up the energy to do a complete os reinstall on it.

I can't even really notice any level loading improvements or anything compared to my 7200rpm spinner.

I have a 850 EVO in my mac, is there any way to update the firmware without Samsung Magician?
can someone tell me what the latest firmware is?

This is up to date firmware as of today.
Drive Revision: EMT02B6Q

You can use HWinfo64 to read it

You can update almost every Samsung SSD Firmware via ISO, ok you need a bootable DOS stick, but you can create one under linux, too.

Only 840 Evo had one firmware that was only available via magician.

None of the stuff on that site works with my 850pro as far as I've seen.

./magician --list

No Samsung SSD found!

The iso's specifically say 840 or older

You could be right, if a firmware update is released, they might update the tools.

Magician DC only supports enterprise drives, hence it's not recognising your drive. I'll send a note asking if there are plans to continue ISO support, but I don't see why there wouldn't be as we already have the tool built. So far there just hasn't been any updates to the 850 or 950 series.

Those are old, they show nothing for the 850 series, which we know has been updated. The only way to update the new drives is through Magician. I hope Samsung goes back to providing ISO images for all SSD's, not just the older ones.
