I just ordered a new 8500 from newegg, and before it gets here I need to know a few things. First off I know I need to get the catalyst 2.2 drivers. But my question is this, I have a Asus gF2 mx400 right now, do I need to completely uninstall it, the det40 drivers, and un-install regestry entry's in XP, to insure that I don't have any conflicts? Also I need to install catalyst instead of XP auto detect driver right? I just wanna make sure I get this right, so I can make my buddies gf3 look bad LOL Any suggestions woul be cool, as this is my first ATI since my 8mb back in the day.
Thanks

Do a thorough uninstall of the Detonators.

Turn off the system. Install the Radeon 8500.

When the system boots up, cancel Windows Hardware install.

Install the Latest Catalyst drivers. Reboot. Viola!

The latest Catalyst drivers are really solid for the 8500 card. You should have no problems whatsoever. Good luck with the 8500 card. I personally have moved on to the 9700 pro card. There are still a few bugs with this card. Awaiting driver updates for this card.

What sort of problems have you had with the 9700?

Hey I just got the Radeon in tonight, and MOHAA, NHL2k2, MaxPayne, Q2,Q3 are running like never before. Thanks for the reply guys. Also how much should I be able to overclock this badboy? Says it's @350mhz right now. Just wondering

350 Mhz! That's darn impressive, seeing that I've only heard of a Radeon going to around 310 stably for core. If you have it stable at 350 core, don't mess with it, you struck gold. I wonder what your scores are.

Here's an example of overclocking overkill for the 8500...
