New 80 GB Hard drive showing as 32 GB

Going in through dos it shows the hard drive is 32 GB, did an fdisk and it shows its 100% used with no extra space left, formatted a couple times, still showing 32 GB. Its a cicero 80 GB Hard drive. Any suggestions on how to get it to show 80 GB before I install XP onto it?

dos....no os installed yet....trying to install. Can you update the bios via cd? My floppy drive dont work.

Make sure it's not jumpered to a 32GB clip. If you want to create a 32GB or larger partition on 2K/XP you'll need to use a 98 bootdisk (bootdisk.com) or partition and format w/ NTFS during the XP setup.

If your comp is old, a quick bios update will fix it

P.S. Be careful while flashing the BIOS..

I just had this same problem about a month ago, go to the website for the HD, and you will find some other pin settings that aren't on the documentation it comes with, for using this HD as a slave and how to set the pins so it sees all 80 and not just 32. Seems very weird but it worked on mine, I wish I could remember offhand, what were the specifics.

My mistake. Well sourced link.
I was gonna ask "then why can`t i format my 120gb in WindowsXP above 32GB using FAT32", but that link has anwered it as well! 🙂

As has been mentioned;
*Try the pin settings on your HD.
*Update your mobos BIOS to the latest version.

But i`d reccommend partitioning the drive into smaller chunks. With a 20Gb Partition for windows/programs, formatted as NTFS. And the rest for games/data/backups as FAT32.
