anybody else find this retarded?

How can the other 7 wonders suddenly not be a wonder anymore. It seems more logical to add to them instead of voting for them.

I thought i just heard that because Egypt was whining they added the pyramids as an 8th.

Edit:
"The pyramids of Giza, the only surviving structures from the original seven wonders of the ancient world, were assured of retaining their status in addition to the new seven after indignant Egyptian officials said it was a disgrace they had to compete."

Great wall still exists along with the Pyramid. What I don't understand is how can the Chris the redeemer be named, and how can the Chichen Itza pyramid be named but not the Pyramid of Giza. Structures that are relatively new and not that hard to build should not be named.

Seems more like a popularity and national pride contest than anything else.

it definitely seemed like that to me. that's what happens when you open the vote to everybody and most people don't care. there were rallying to vote; it's like the AT effect on a global scale.

Anyone can create their own list of the 7 wonders of the world. It's not like its an official thing or something.

Gee look, I just created my own list, and the Egyptian pyramids aren't on it, man are they gonna be pissed! Or...maybe they won't care that some dude created yet another random list of the 7 wonders of anything.

Having "7 Wonders of the World" worked back when "The World" consisted of the Mediterranean basin.

Probably why Angkor didnt make the list. Not enough Cambodians able to get onto the internet and vote.

I understand the reason for most of them except the Jesus statue.

If it was paying homage to the importance of faith then I'd have to say the Sistine Chapel or St Peter's Basilica makes more sense (both seem more like "wonders" than the Jesus statue, too).

It was a joke anyway, the writeup on CNN stated that you could easily vote multiple times, and it was entirely based online.

Seeing the voting was done online, I am surprised Jessica Alba is not on that list.

None of these "New" wonders make me wonder. Why the hell is a Jesus statue a wonder? Maybe if lasers shoot out his eyes...
