Which is why the jebus statue won.

Seems more like a popularity and national pride contest than anything else.

The great wall was never a wonder of the world. Far too new -- and the chinese civilization was unknown to the authors of the original list anyhow.

Edit: I mean the modern wall, as we recognize it now. There was a wall constructed around 200 BC when the old list was compiled, but it was very different. My recollection (from my chinese history class) is that walls in china during the 200's BC were more like mounds -- designed not to stop troops, but to break cavalry charges. Still very impressive though.

Sure it is a wonder. It is the perfect example of waste of public money. At least the Pyramids are impressive. This stupid wall was useless as it turns out it didn't take too much to bribe the general to open the door :)

I bet you could get a great deal on the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Machu Picchu! Yay!

<--born in Peru

Seriosly though, some countries campaigned really hard to win this. Peru had computers set up on the street of downtown lima so people could vote. I believe there were also computers set up on hotels so tourist would vote. It was a pretty big deal there. In my opinion, Machu Picchu deserves to be in that list. It's just an awesome place (pictures can't show the extent of the beauty of that place).

The old-school list

i am in more awe over the "ancient" ones then the jesus statue or some of the new ones.

what they were able to make thousands of years ago is amazing. To me the The Colossus of Rhodes was far more wonderous then the Jesus statue.

Eh, it sucks there are no remains left of the old 7 wonders other than the Pyramids. I would have loved to see the Gardens of Babylon or the Statue of Zeus

Why are you guys so pissed that Jesus wins?

If it had been a statue of Satan or a bottle of beer, would you feel better?

Bingo. Add tourism influx and you've got it.

i dont' understand how the giza pyramids were a wonder, but are no longer a wonder? especially when there are two other pyramidial "wonders" on this new list... i understand not making the hanging gardens or the statue of zeus a wonder, cause they dont' exist.. but the pyramids still exist!
