New 440 foot tall roller coaster @ Cedar Point.

Ok, I did a search on "cedarpoint", "cedar", "point", "roller", "coaster", and "440" and found nothing. So, if this is a dupe, don't chop my head off please. 🙂

I was reading through some of the comments on Slashdot in response to this story about a robot ride that would like to simulate a roller coaster. The ride itself actually looks pretty darn neat, but not as neat as the new Cedar Point ride that was mentioned in this comment. Apparently Cedar Point is pretty far along into the construction of a 440 foot tall roller coaster, their (to be) latest and greatest addition. According to someone who replied to the comment further down and supposedly works in that area of the park, it looks monstrous even compared to the Millenium Force. VirtualMidway.com tries to dish out some additional information on this "mystery attraction" from Cedar Point, with a map of the area under construction, and many pictures of the constructed phases from different views. And through the pictures and various sightings, it has been reported to sport straight up and down runs, with twists on possibly one side, to the maximum height. My reaction: "Oh damn..." - I'm gonna be there next summer to check this thing out (and hopefully it'll be done by time I get there 🙂 ), it's a good thing it only takes me an hour or two to get there. I love going to Cedar Point. 😀

Cedar Point puts every other amusement park to SHAME. I could never goto one of those damn Six Flags places ever again.

I will be going again to Cedar Point in 2003, I can't wait😀

Cedar Point is by far the best amusement park in the country, if not the world. I used to live 45 minutes from it. The only problem is that the bigger rollercoasters have a line wait of over 2 hours :Q.

It would be rated number 1 park if it had more press like Disneyland and Disneyworld.

The lines are only that long on busy days. Go on a Tuesday in May sometime. :-D

One of the few things I miss about living back East 🙁

Last time I went to Cedar Point the Gemini was the baddest coaster in all the land (over 60MPH, iirc)

The coaster isn't 440 Feet. The actual number hasn't come out yet, but the number is between 410 and 425. It will be a hydrolic launched coaster. Top speed in the aread of 110-120 mph.

This coaster will be a one trick pony. Near horizontal launch that goes vertical (90 degrees) and rotates clockwise 90 degrees. The top hat is next and sends you straight down over 400 feet while rotating you counter clockwise 270 degrees before returning to the horizontal position. Once you hit horizontal you are slowed by rare earth magnets that require no electricity (the same ones used on Millenium Force). The whole ride lasts around 30 seconds. It will be awesome.

I live less than 40 minutes from Cedar Point (have for all my life) and haven't been there since the first day The Magnum (sorry...edit) started (was actually on the fourth public 'ride'). I guess I'm getting 'old' 🙁

Ahhh.. Cedar Point, I remember going there every summer 10 years ago (when I lived in Ohio). My favorite rides were Mean Streak and the Magnum XL200. I wanna go back soon.

Oh don't worry, cedar point will be "Six Flags: Cedar Point" soon enough.

I don't think so. They are owned by Cedar Fair and have something like 5 or 6 parks. Cedar Point would never let Six Flags take them over. The return on the stock is something like $1.50 a year which kills Six Fags.

Cedar Points pwnz all other parks...

Six Flag Magic Mountain is close though

I saw them constructing the new ride when I was there this past halloween

X at Six Flags Magic Mountain is pretty sweet. Basically, at certain parts of the track, you chair rotates and even flips all the way around.
