New 3G+GPS Apple iPhone Confirmed...

When the 3G iPhone is introduced this summer, AT&T, the exclusive U.S. iPhone sales partner with Apple, will cut the price by as much as $200, according to a person familiar with the strategy.

AT&T is preparing to subsidize $200 of the cost of a new iPhone, bringing the price down to $199 for customers who sign two-year contracts, the source says. Apple is expected to have two versions of the new iPhone, an 8-gigabyte-memory and a 16-gigabyte-memory model with price tags widely expected to be $399 and $499.

A few details about the new iPhone have also been confirmed by the source. The new iPhone will be 2.5 mm thinner than the 11.7 mm original. The iPhone will also have a GPS chip for navigation and other location-based services.

I have had a 4GB Sansa for over a year and have never needed to fill it to capacity.

8GB or 16GB would be PLENTY for me personally...for music at least. I haven't gotten into the whole video thing yet. But I think if I bought one it would be for its music and on-the-go Internet browsing features.

Just too bad that I hate AT&T and love T-Mobile.

My guess is it'll probably use google maps. With 3g there is no need to store 'em.

I just think it's going to use a new GPS chip to better locate you on Google Maps. What else do you need? Google Maps has both street and satellite views.

I'll wait for the Samsung Instinct to come out and buy that instead of going with this and considering AT&T nickels and dimes you for everything Sprint includes in their plans for cheaper - no way.

As much as I dislike Apple and their markup of their products, if AT&T is willing to cut me a deal like this, I'd go for it. I'm interested in a $200 iPhone, definitely, but I'm not interested in the required internet plan for 2 years. If I could the iPhone for $200, but keep my current family plan without any media services, I'd get it. But not until then. There's no sense in making people pay for services they don't want.

Yeah, seeing as I'm on a family plan with my parents still, and love my Verizon service anyhow... this does nothing for me. Not to mention, a touchscreen-only phone, while flashy and as well-done as the iPhone is, just doesn't appeal to me. If it's going to be touchscreen, I also want keys for texting. Using the screen for numbers doesn't bother me in the least, as I'd rarely do that anyhow, just using contacts.
Sounds like the Samsung Glyde is going to be on sale very soon, and just read a report of an individual ordering one from a verizon CSR. Maybe I'll get lucky tomorrow when I call and get in touch with a CSR that'll sell me one.
