New 30'' monitor suggestions?

Hi

I'm looking at buying a new 30'' 2560x1600 display and was wondering if you guys could help out with my pick. I have read the sticky, but I noticed the last update was in 2009 so to be safe I'm starting a new thread.

I'll mainly be using my screen for gaming, media and office work. Ideally it will have some basic speakers (its OK if they're low-end) as I occasionally watch stuff with friends and I cant use my headphones. On the gaming end mostly I use my PC, but I occasionally use my Xbox 360 as well.

You can see my exact system specs in my signature, but I'm running an ATI 4890, so if there are some special cable considerations to made, keep that in mind.

On pricing I'm flexible. I realize that monitor pricing ranges from 1000 to 2000 dollars depending on the display quality. I'm using a Samsung 26'' TN panel now and I've been happy with it, though the viewing angles could be better. In the end I'll probably decide based on your recommendations on panel type.

Also, I live in Turkey, so I CANT use Newegg. Prices are likely to be higher here and the specific model you guys suggest may not be available. If its possible, a secondary or tertiary suggestion would be great.

Not sure if I would recommend a 30" at that resolution with your 4890...

Go with 32" or 27" 1080p monitor/TV

I'd rather not use a 1080p tv screen as I'm already running at 1920x1200.

I assume you think the 30" will be too much for the 4890? Possibly, but I'm not playing a lot of Crysis style games. Mainly I'm playing company of heroes. I do play a bit of battlefield bad company 2, but currently I'm running at max settings DX10 with barely any fps problems. I assume that the 4890 can handle a 30" resolution if I knock down the AA settings.

32" 1080p monitor for office work? I'd rather jump from a building. That may be fine for gaming or if you're sitting far enough away, but as a normal desktop.. no thanks.

If you're spending the money for a 30" monitor I'm sure there's some place in the budget for a new GPU as well, depending on the games he's playing.

I have dual 5770s for my Dell 3008 and it is okay for light gaming (transformers, revenge of the fallen). I'm not sure of the setting but my 7 YO hasn't complained.
I have a single 5770 for my Dell 3007 but it is not used for gaming. I 'think' I used to have my 360 hooked up to it without many issues.

The 4890 gets about 30 avg. fps on High settings at 2560x1600 which for me would be too low, but if you're fine with lower settings or minimums in the 20s you'd be fine.

Worse comes to worse I'll get a new graphics card, as I said I primarily play company of heroes which the 4890 will have no sweat playing.

Is there any difference between the 3007 and 3008 Dell monitors? Are there 2009 or 2010 models?

If you play seriously, the dell 3007wfp-hc is better, but the 3008 had better color accuracy, more inputs, can work at more resolutions. I believe the current best 30" is the HP ZR30w but I could be wrong.

The U3011 just came out, but I have yet to see a review on it. Still using the good-quality IPS screen, but I don't know how much better/worse it is compared to the 3008s. From the Dell site, the inputs look to be plentiful:

I'd go with an (S)PVA/IPS TV. Seriously. Ofc I would also forget about 2560x1600 unless you specifically need this for something (I can't really fathom what) you should go with 1920x1080.

It's better than the 3008 for gaming and has less input lag (24ms isnt bad) and has less ghosting than the 3008 but is slightly more expensive but buying new, worth it i'd say (also better factory color calibration and accuracy than the 3008).

I'd really rather not use a 1920x1080 display. Essentially whats happening is that I'm giving my old display to my brother and getting a new one. I'm using a 26" Samsung 1920x1200.

I love this screen, but since my bro needs it I might as well try out the next level in resolutions. Going for a bigger screen at lower resolution would be like going down from my old one.
