New 2k install and CounterStrike

I just installed Win2k, and of course, the first game to be installed is counterstrike. I can only play for about 30 seconds to about 3-4 minutes, and it locks. I have let it sit there, nothing happens, and the three fingered salute does nothing. I have to hit reset.

Prophet II MX (7.52 and 1080 drivers tried)
SB-Live! X-Gamer 5.1 (Shipping drivers, I can't find any new ones, but I didn't look REAL hard)
Abit KT7-R w/ 4.29 4in1's
Intel PRO/DSL internal modem
192 MB RAM (I'll try pulling the 128, I suspect it)

Half-Life ver 1106, and CS ver 1.1

Win2k has been patched with SP1.

Thanks

Did you install the Windows2000/AMD AGP patch? I am pretty sure this is the right file. Pop in your motherboard CD and it will be there for you to install for sure.

Hey, thanks. I searched at creative.com for sblive drivers the other day, and only found drivers that specifically said not to be used with the 5.1 Thank you.

No, I had not installed the AGP patch. I will as soon asI get home though. I am at work today just doing a little extra work for time and a half. I will update at about 4:00 pacific.

1) When did the problem first start to happen? A close time estimate.

2) Did the problem occur right after you installed new hardware? If so, what?
Have you installed any new software (tweaking utilities, etc) since the machine was working fine?

3) Does the current system (or new hardware) work with a different operating system (ie, Win98SE) ?

4) I know you're using an (Edit: Prophet II MX) ATI Radeon video card. Have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers?

5) Have you downloaded the latest VIA 4in1 drivers from http://www.viahardware.com ? Did you install them before or after your video card and sound card drivers?

6) Do you use onboard audio? If so, does the sound loop when the machine locks up in 3D games?

1. right after I installed CS (Which is the first and only game on the system)

2. I had just built the system, I installed the Modem drivers first, downloaded the 1080 drivers, installed them, Installed my sound drivers. Did some research as to which 4in1's are stable, downloaded and installed the 4.29 version.

3. It works fine with 98SE, Redhat 7.0 w/ the 2.4 Kernel.

4. have tried 1080 and 7.52

5. After, and ver 4.29

6. No onboard, and no, it does not loop. It does sometimes keep playing for a few seconds I think.

Thanks in advance

I'd recommend trying out the official Det3 6.50 drivers. Also try re-installing Half-Life (Counter-Strike), and using the patches on the forum thread I gave.

Thank you all, after a couple hours testing, it seems to be stable. I installed the AGP patch and it seems to be working.

Dulanic,

You mean the patches I posted? I'm running a KT133 system and all of those patches actually solved my stability problems - specifically with Counter-Strike. The registry file is the one that fixed it, I think.
