New 2600 mobile and nf7-s, Need tips, Also, maybe thinking of a DFI lanparty, better than Abit?

Hi, I am getting this board and processor in a couple of days and was wondering a few things;

Some people are cutting some jumper to disable the powersave feature, is this necessary.

Also any overclocking tips are appreciated, I am unfamiliar with these processors.

Running an xp3000+ barton, gigabyte 7n400pro right now, but wanted to mess with this setup.

Also any ideas of how the xp 3000 might do in the Abit, , or should I just try the mobile in the abit.


Also thinking of a DFI Lanparty, already bought the abit, but might get a DFI, any thoughts on this??

Both chips will overclock much better in the NF7-S, if you are interested in OCing the XP3000. Of course, you're going to get a much higher overclock out of the mobile 2600, so that's the processor you should put into the Abit board.

But I have another, am I going to be able to have access to all multipliers?

It seems that other boards have a problem with this, is abit one of them?

Also, I see you have a 2600 mobile, any ideas of where to start???

I am using pc-3500(433) its ok at 2-3-3-6...up to 217mhz.

the NF7 is one of the few boards that DOES allow you to change your mults above 13.5
Since your RAM is good only to 217MHz (not saying that's bad or anything), you won't run into the > 220 FSB issue some later NF7's have.

Hmmm. Well, I have been able to get my NF7-s/Mobile 2600 to a max of 212x11.5 stable. I just swapped mobo to a DFI Ultra Infinity. All else is the same. I hope to see how far the DFI goes. I have to admit though, I am seeing a lot of folks having issues with the DFI at higher FSB. Perhaps the "ability" to do so over the NF7-s is not worth the instability. What sucks even more is the amount of time I have sunk into this silly overclocking excersize. Also Abit support seems a little more on top of things in terms of BIOS and Driver support. At least the latest Nvidia mobo drivers didnt crash on the Abit and do on the DFI.

Good points, maybe before I jump the gun, I'll see how things transpire..thanks at least you have both boards and its nice to get your point of view. Stability is a definite for me.
