New 250cc entry level sport bike for the USA

Maximum horsepower for the single-cylinder CBR250R's quarter-liter mill is 26 ponies at 8,500 rpm. Yes, that's a little behind the Kawi's 32 hp, but the Honda critically has more torque at 17 pound-feet and weighs 359 pounds (368 lbs with optional ABS!), which is a non-trivial 14 pounds less than the Ninja.

Looks pretty good, it's nice to have something available other than the same old Ninja.

Holy shit, an entry level bike with ABS, and a Honda. Awesome. Surprised they didn't pimp it out and just paint it red to showcase.

Very nifty little bike, but I still want Honda to bring the CB1100 over. I may be crazy, but I think the CB1100 is the best looking new bike I've seen since the original cruiser-styled Valkyrie. It just looks right.

That is awesome!!! I would definitely get the CBR250R if it's around $3500.

I had an 2009 Ninja 250R and upgraded to a 2009 Ninja ZX6R. I sure do miss the 70mpg with the Ninja 250R 🙁

The bike top out at around 100mph and can get to 90mph pretty fast. It's basically as fast as a typical 4 cylinder full size sedan. Well faster since it run nearly 15 second flat 1/4 mile.

250's don't usually do well in the United States.

They're supposed to release the price on November 12. That will probably decide it's success right there.

I think the EX500 (Ninja500) was the perfect starter bike. I'd look for a clean used one.

I always thought the 250's would be lighter than that. Considering my CBR600RR weighs in at 413 lbs. Only a 50lb reduction for a much smaller bike?

Who told you 250 doesn't sell in the united states?

:hmm: The Ninja 250 is Kawasaki's sale leader. THey sold more 250r than any other bike in their line up year after year. Not the 500, not the zx6, zx10, etc...

That looks like a '79 Honda I owned a few years ago.

I know. 🙂

I've always had a thing for the classic UJM "look". The UJM, the classic British twin (think Triumph Bonneville), and the BMW /5 are arguably my favorite looks for motorcycles; practicality taken to a very high degree of development without a lot of "gingerbread". Same reason I loved the original Valkyrie and did not at all like the later Rune (though I admit the Rune was meticulously crafted).

I am excited about Honda's little 250 though. EFI in such a small package is a great thing; hopefully it will finally push the full line into EFI engines.

The ninja is obsolete when this come out. Fuel injection, ABS, more torque, Honda reliability, and this thing looks like the VFR1200 🙂

535lbs...man, that's almost as heavy as my old CB750 too. I do like the look of it but I'd have to ride it before giving it the nod to enter my garage.

BTW-My SV650 has fuel injection.

Different riding styles for different folks. I tend to ride to relax and just enjoy the scenery; if I'm in the "zoom zoom" mood I'll play with the 951. The CB1100 strikes me as being almost purpose-built for that sort of riding. It's pretty obviously not a great choice for someone who wants to canyon carve though. I can't see it competing in any real way with your SV.

I know the SV has EFI, but the Ninja 250 doesn't. Looking through Honda's lineup, it seems they've made updates since I last looked a couple years ago and now even the lower-end Shadows are EFI, leaving the little Rebel 250 (an odd little anachronism that's nearly 30 years old but still in production) as the lone carbed bike in their lineup. It's just nice to see that the transition is finishing up.

I'd be interested in seeing those numbers. Worldwide, yes. Best seller in the US, I can't find numbers to support that.

The Euro Ninja 250 has been FI since '08. They'll bring it here if they need to.

ABS will be optional on the Honda. I'm very interested to see the pricing.

I watched the video just now and it is amazing how much they went back the original CB750 for styling cues. Here is a pic of my '79 CB750. This was a Limited Edition-10 year Anniversary Model but it had been repainted. I only owned it for about a year and a half but I loved that bike. Sold it for more than I paid but I did a lot of polishing and fixing up in that time.

I'm still kind of surprised the CB1100 only makes 87hp and weighs as much as it does though. I'd like to give one a test ride.

87 horsepower is nothing to sneer at, it will get you going plenty fast.

I'm not sneering at it. I've ridden a Ducati Monster 1100 S that makes a paltry 95hp and that bike would raise the front wheel effortlessly and was plenty quick. It weighs about 130lbs less than this bike though. That's really what I was getting at.
