New 2015 Ducati 1299 Panigale Is A 205-HP Supercomputer

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

I can afford a $20k bike. I cannot afford a $25k+ bike. I mean, $20k is already overindulging.

When the reviews come out, I'll be interested. Until then, the 2015 S1000RR is out now (Or at least seems to be according to BMW's website) and seems to be amazing as far as features go. (Performance is also likely to be great but I don't see numbers anywhere) EDIT: Seems it might not be out. They haven't revealed pricing either and there is some speculation that it will be stupid expensive with the features included.

Still waiting for the Yamaha R1...

I'm curious, what are you riding currently?

This bike will probably start somewhere around $18,995 which is what the current 1199 Panigale costs. S model will be a few grand more and then there are the more exclusive R and Superleggera models that will probably be offered in the future for stupid money.

Edit-My local Ducati dealer had a Superleggera they ordered for a customer. I saw it before the guy took delivery of it. Very cool bike but at $65k I didn't even dare touch it and they never wheeled it into the showroom.

Love the 'event based' vehicle control aspect, that is REALLY cool. Especially how it can control steering daming, ABS, shifting, etc. I be it's got an unreal about of responsiveness AND control.

Your recent trend of useless posts isn't adding much to the discussions around here.

^This. We don't care that you're not interested. No one does. Please keep your shitty attitude to yourself instead of blathering over others' threads about how you don't care about whatever they posted about. It adds nothing to the conversation and only gives you the appearance of being a gargantuan ass-hat who gets off on telling people that you don't care about the things that interest them.

I don't think he has ever owned a motorcycle so he definitely has no business buying a 20k supersport.

No doubt! Just think how much it will cost to repair a nice bike like that if you tip it over in the parking lot or maneuvering it around in the garage which I see tons of new riders do.

Hell, I did that recently moving my bike around the garage and I have almost 10 years of riding experience. Side stand wasn't all the way down, I had been mountain biking all morning and I was tired-probably shouldn't have been trying to move the bike at that point. 😳

Older guy buying sport bike isn't as likely to die as an older guy buying a Harley as a first bike.

The two groups of riders at the top of the dead riders set is young guys on sport bikes and first time riders on Harleys.

43 years of motorcycle experience.

I had some experience riding motorcycles and scooters when I was younger but many years went by before I started getting back into bikes so I'm just counting my recent experience.

Yeah, my first years were off road dirt bikes (1971 Suzuki 90, 1976 Honda Elsinore CR125), but I got my first road bike, a 1975 Yamaha RD350, back in 76. Then a 1980 Suzuki GS750 which I kept until the mid 90's. Current bike is a 2004 VFR800 Interceptor.

I toyed with the idea of an Aprilia RSV years ago but decided on the somewhat more practical VFR.

I dropped the RD on an oil slick road and dropped the 750 when I didn't get the side stand all the way down.

Fastest I've ever driven a car was my 1998 Integra GSR, 142mph with a slight down hill assist. Fastest on a motorcycle was 153mph on the Interceptor. The speed for the car was from my GPS, the speedo was 149mph. Can't say for sure what the actual speed on the bike was but guess it was about 145mph.

does it get extra grippy tires that noone else can use on the paddock?

/sarcasm off

Love this bike and what ducati has done technology wise for the sector. The electronically controlled steering dampning is killer! Wish I had that on my CBX lol

the opening pic in the article makes me want one.

one of these days i'll ride a ducati, seeing as i've always been on an inline 4-banger, a twin would be a nice changeup!

and like jlee said...that torque curve 😱 😱 😱 😱

Feelings are split. The latest round of bikes are the first in a long while that have really grabbed my interest. Stunning, visually and on the spec sheet.
But, for me, it's gone too far. 200+ hp is a monster stat, but with it comes all of the electronics....event based...reacting to the bike and not the rider's inputs. The throttle is slowly losing its job.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some clouds to yell at.

In other far more interesting news (to me, heh) - Honda revealed an Africa Twin concept that looks like it could lead to an actual bike. About damn time! A real DS twin with a 21 front please!

All that opinion and you haven't even ridden it yet? Or read a review written by someone who has?

I don't get the biker hate for safety features on motorcycles. If something can help prevent me from crashing my bike I'm all for it. Especially if it is near transparent in its operation.

I think this bike is absolutely gorgeous but probably way more bike than I would ever need or want. The Ducati Multistrada on the other hand, I definitely want one of those.

If the implementation of all that tech is good, it will probably be awesome. Still, tech aside, 205hp on something of that weight, as a relatively new rider, seems like it would be totally insane!

I've ridden a couple bikes with 160hp and fairly low weight. They are definitely a rush but honestly I wasn't overwhelmed by the power. Impressed? Definitely, but it wasn't unmanageable. I would expect this bike would be similar especially with all the tech features. Wheelie control, traction control, ABS, these are all good things on a bike like this.

I don't hear BMW riders complaining about these features on the S1000RR.

This bike definitely isn't for a new rider.

People that are new to bike, no matter their age, are way more likely to hurt/kill themselves and a light weight 205hp bike would only increase that chance.

I'm a firm believer in learning in the dirt where the speeds are lower and so are the consequences. I would not recommend a sport bike of any kind to a first time road rider.

But, it's not just sport bikes as Harleys have a high death rate owing mostly to mid life guys getting one with no experience.

If this bike is going to be $20-25k why is the Ninja H2 getting so much hype? Isn't it going to be like $30k? This thing has similar power and quite a bit lower weight (over 100kgs if I'm not mistaken, although maybe the weights I saw one was loaded and one wasn't or something, I was fairly surprised at the disparity). Plus, maybe I'm wrong but I'd think Ducati has a bit more brand prestige than Kawasaki.

The 1299\1198\R1\S1000r are more track focused. The H2 looks to be street focused. Completely different segments

The H2 is for a different segment and looks to be more of a architecture showcase for the supercharged engine. As a streetbike, it looks like is for the rider who wants the power and stability of the ZX14 with a bit more handling tossed in. I expect that the big draw on the H2 will be street rider who wants to boost the crap out of it hit the strip and have huge amounts of usable power everywhere in the power band on the street.
I do expect that this engine is going to start popping up on the their other street bikes. Basically treating the displacement race as a dead end and following whats happening in the automotive world.
