replace my old 17inch monitor with new 19inch one, considering either viewsonic p95f, p790 or sony g420.
which one will u choose, and is sony worth the extra money?

any suggestions.
thx

I've got the Samsung 955 DF......... I've been pretty happy with it so far (I've had it for 3 months now).

Cheers,

Get an envision. I have a G200 now (17" of the G420). I've seen teh G220, both versions, they are about all the same the G series. Its probably not worth the money. I placed an Envision next to my Sony and got blown away by the cheapy CompUSA monitor. Totally kicks viewsonics but

Also recommend the Samsung 900NF, I'm getting ready to pick one up myself.... 🙂 Out of the literally hundreds of reviews I've read on everything from KDS to Viewsonic, the Samsung is the only one I have yet to find a negative review about.

I have a KDS VS-19sn, and I'm pretty happy with it. Although they're out of business, they made great monitors. I'd suggest the AV series because they're true flat screens. Mine was advertised as a flat screen, and that's why I bought it, but it's not a true flat screen. Viewsonic and Samsung also make exceptional monitors. I think that KDS will give you the most for your money because their prices are pretty low, but both Samsung and Viewsonic will also give you great value for your money. Hope this helps...

BTW: Welcome to the forums. 🙂

God, don't want to sound like I'm jumping on the bandwagon, but I've been on the Samsung 955DF bandwagon for a long time now and, well just get it okay?

Actually, I've been a long time Samsung fan, i've been using 900P, 950P, 955DF for a while now - and to cut through all the BS, they are just great monitors for the $$$$$ - You can't go wrong.

chalk up another one for the Samsung 900NF. The 955DF is also great especially if you get it for under or around 200 bucks.

Don't get the Samsung 955DF! I got it and the first thing I noticed was the graininess on the left and right sides. The dot pitch is .21 (or .20?) in the middle but it gets noticeably grainy on the sides. I've replaced it once already thinking it was defective. Same problem with the replacement. I even went to Best Buy and their display monitor had the same graininess. Most people don't notice it right away, although I found it especially noticeable on white backgrounds.

You know Mitsubish Monitors are really nice too. I used to have 19inch A.G. and the quality was top notch. Much better than the KDS I have now.

KDS went out of business?

I love samsung monitors but I would stay away from the DF series they are their "low" end flat face monitors. The NF I believe is a much better quality. I was extremely happy also with my 950P... and would suggest any monitors in the Professional series. Like I said though the DF was pretty disappointing, namely because of geometry, color and refresh rates. I have no problem with Samsung in general. Hitachi also makes very good monitors for the money (not too many 19" monitors support 1600x1200 and 75Hz+ refresh rate) I now have a Hitachi 721F which is as good or better than the 950P I had... the bonus being the anti glar flat screen, higer refresh rates at high res and a 5 year warranty. I bought the monitor for $249 at Newegg ($39 shipping) and I couldn't be more happy.

Another vote here for the Samsung 900NF. I've had it for a few weeks now and it's a great monitor. I don't think the 955 is a bad monitor if you're looking for a budget deal. I'm rather picky though so went for the better one. 🙂 It was the right choice by far.

Another vote for 900NF, though it's a bit disappointing to see that Samsung has lowered the capabilities of the monitor recently.

I agree with Pariah(assuming this "rumor" is true). Nevertheless, one more for the now ubitiquous Samsung 900NF. 🙂

I was going to get the Viewsonic P95f but apparently they don't make them anymore so I'll probably get the Samsung 950P+ instead. I haven't decided yet though as I might get a 21" monitor in the end.

I just picked up a Samsung 950p, and its nice, except you have to crank the contrast up full and the brightness all the way down. This normal?

Setting contrast at 100 and brightness at the highest without making blacks less black is the accepted method for screen tuning.

Thanks for responding. I have the contrast all the way up, and the only way to maintain pure black is to keep the brightness all the way down...that sound right?
