damn i want the black one...but the $200 increase for 20gb of space makes it blahhhh


quick question regarding the macbook.....where are the memory slots? Are both slots accessible from the bottom or only 1 of them? (and the only below the keyboard or whereever?)

Maybe it's just me, but those folks at the Apple Store seem VERY arrogant and unreceptive to people looking to drop $1,000 on a notebook. I went there and asked if they had a MacBook that I could look at b/c I didn't see any on the floor. Guy was like well yeah, we've got 'em the back. I responded with "I'd like to play around with it for a bit before I buy." He responds, that they're in the back and that there's some guy over near the benches using one -- then he just sorta points his finger in the general direction and walks away. WTF? So you bought one anyways? 😕 Why would you want to buy something that is associated with people of that mentality? I'm sure you're nothing like them so I fail to see as to why you'd put up with that ******. This is one particular reason why I hate apple, steve jobs is an arrogant douche, and his doucheyness is passed down in the ranks all the way to the customer service rep, evil to the core.. I don't believe apple has been a very 'pure' company in a very long time, god I hate apple.

Both are accessible from the bottom of the laptop link

Not sure about the hard drive actually :Q

The thing about the ProCare is that you can purchase it at anytime assuming you are still under warranty. So you have it and you plan on keeping it for more then a year, then towards the end of the normal warranty you can walk into the store and purchase the ProCare and have it extended two more years.

(My friend bought the ProCare on his iPod the day that the warranty was expiring, he logged on to apples website and everything was extended with no problems. iPods ProCare only lasts one extra year, compared to computers two years.)

Noise - no worse than the iBook, which is pretty much silent.

Heat - On par with my old Powerbook, but a big leap from the iBook, which was normally quite cool. I'm thinking that these may be suffering the same issues that the Pros are.

The extra 20 GB hard drive upgrade only costs $50. You're basically paying an extra $150 for the black paint job :roll:

Sheesh... And people wonder why Apple only has 5% marketshare of the computer market.

Just an FYI, I work at a company that deals with plastics and different colors can and do jack up prices. We don't use polycarbonate so I cannot say for sure that it is right, but it isn't unheard of.

You should see the price for those glow-in-the-dark truck release handles :shocked:

When Merom comes out I hope Apple puts better graphics in the MacBooks, I don't want to have to get a Pro just to get decent graphics.

I was in the apple store (also durham) a couple hours ago, they were just setting up the black and white ones.

Normally glossy screens drive me batty with glare and color issues, but these were better than most. I'd still prefer the standard screen, though. I hate glare with a passion. I could control it on a desktop, but a laptop has to be viewable in all sorts of lighting... the apple glossy screen definitely isn't.

I realize this is apples new low end, but there were a couple things that bothered me though-

The keyboard looks/feels really shady (cheap)

the black coating is not bad, but not nearly as nice as a thinkpad. I could see it getting pretty nasty looking pretty quick.

Also hilarious was the one hot female in the group of 10-12 nerdy guys who wanted to look at the new macbooks. she wanted to pick it up to see how heavy it was, and one of the apple store clerks thought he was mr. funnypants and kept repeating:

"uh, yeah, it's 20.1 pounds...heh heh...<looks at other associate for response, finds none> heh, yeah, 20.1 pounds"

<girl rolls eyes and picks up computer>

"heh, you must have gotten really strong picking up all those heavy computers...heh, heh"

<girl isn't even paying attention at this point>
