New 12.90 Dets...NE1 upgrade (Does anyone care about new Det's anymore, anyway?)

Ho-hum; yet another Det release. This time it's the NEW 12.90's! I've changed drivers for my GTS so many times, I could prolly do it with my eyes closed (Click, scroll down 3 clicks with scroll wheel, click, click, reboot...I've go it down, man!)

Just curious to see if NE1 has upgraded. Remember about 6 months ago, whenever a new driver set was released, we'd all go gaa-gaa over it? Oooh, I was the first to run benchies! My score was XXXX which was significantly better than the old drivers xxxx, etc. I was part of that crowd too! OK, I'll go away now. \me<----slinks back under rock.

Hey MichaelD, you're not the only one, and I'm sure there's many more. I think it's a part of nVidia's overall marketing scheme to stay in the consumer's eyes. It's nice to buyers to know that a company continues to support its products. Too bad sometimes those new drivers are just new version numbers, and that's where the "new" stops. 🙁

Same here SD. I saw that the 12.41's were WQHL-certified and went "ooooh-ahhhh" so far they've been flawless, I must admit. I also agree w/Ponyboy that it's great to see a company continue to support it's products. Kinda neat considering ATI puts out new drivers about once a year or so, right? 😉

nah i just stick with the official ones now although I haven't discovered the 12. 41's to be so flawlwss in win 2000. seems to have a couple problems in opengl in particular serious sam the teleporters graphics are all screwed up. Since i only see that a couple times through the entire game I don't worry about it.

Nope. I intend to only upgrade Det's when one of the following happens:

1. Upgrade video card
2. Upgrade CPU
3. Upgrade OS

For everything I do right now, 7.58 WHQL is the best I can hope for.

<< Pardon my newbieness, but what's WHQL? >>

<< The Purpose of WHQL
The purpose of Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs is to ensure the compatibility of hardware with Microsoft Operating Systems. WHQL provides test kits that are used to qualify devices, systems and servers for the Microsoft Windows logos and for inclusion on Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)

On my aprox. 5th install of windows, I was using the ELSA drivers for my Gladiac GTS2, but I was getting these lines when I moved the mouse over things, like hyperlinks or just text in notepad. I installed the Generic Detonators and now it doesn't do that anymore.

I copied the Coolbits hack from the 10.80's and tried overclocking my CreativeLabs GF2GTS. Got crappy results. The tiny increase in 3DM and NO increase in FPS in UT doesn't even justify the .5 seconds it takes on bootup for the card to "flash" to the higher memory setting. That's why I'm so excited (hopefully not in vain) about this new BIOS. Maybe all of us "middle of the road video card owner" will get a nice performance increase for free! Yeah, right. We'll see though.
