Here is the review Donut is talking about http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_5870_PCI-Express_Scaling/25.html

x4 lane has plenty of bandwidth for 2 5770 in crossfire, should he choose to go that route.

The problem with the 'scaling' article is he did not run CrossFire (and it was an Intel P55 chipset with the controller on-die). 'Theoretically', you have twice the overhead on the controller with CF and that may well impact scaling. It's anybody's guess at this point --- especially with an AMD arch.

Wizzard said he was working on a follow up article by running two cards in CF with one at 'x4' but I've yet to see an article (it may be out there and I haven't seen it).

As long as it's been I think his theory might have gone to crap - LOL

Ok, so the setup I'm leaning toward is the following:

Here is a Phenom 955BE C3 / HD 5770 1Gb / Asus M4A79XTD EVO AM3 790X combo for $403

This GSkill 2x2Gb DDR3 1333 is on the QVL list at $108.

Check this combo Antec 300+Antec Earth watts 500W $109

Windows 7 - $100

Western Digital Black 640GB - $75

ASUS VW246H Glossy Black 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 (1000:1) Built-in Speakers - $239

What do you think?
Any kewboard omouse reccomendations?

Saitek Eclipse has been my favorite keyboard. It's cheap and feels good to type on :D. I'm still using my trusty ol' MX518, and I still love it. Could go with the newer G5.

I don't know a lot about monitors but that price tag seems hefty. Other than that, it looks good. You'll get wonderful performance :D.

Ok, is there a different 24 inch LCD that is cheaper that you all would reccomend. It does not have to be the best, but I don't want crap either.

Thanks,

I wouldn't go with the green drive either. It is the weakest link in my system and one that I kind of regret but I'm hesitant to go through the hassle of reloading my OS at this point.

Building a system yourself isn't difficult, just take your time and make sure you read through the manual for your motherboard so you know how everything should be configured. Also, there are several guides for doing this online.

Jules was probably reading posts on the first page when he wrote that. Black is not green.

ASUS VE246H Black 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 50000 :1 (ASCR) Built-in Speakers

Looks like a lower model number 'E' vs 'W', but says 50,000:1 vs 20,000:1 DCR (both are really inflated and not very useful for comparison). Also 250 vs 300 brightness, but most people don't use LCDs at max brightness anyways.

The Antec 300 would even fit a 5850 if you wanted to put one in there.

ok well I think I definitely have a good system recommendation.

My last min question is more of a concern. I just bought a new macbook last year and absolutely love it for what it does...but it def cannot play games on it. I'm concerned that if I buy this new awesome system, than the mac would have been a waste of money since I would probably not use it as much.

I really want to game though so I am debating on if this would be a wise purchase. I would also consider getting like a ps3 and a tv which would also cost about 1000 but im concerned that I would be getting in pretty late and that a new system would come out pretty soon.

What do you guys think?

Consoles and PCs cater to different markets.

This is not a good forum to ask for unbiased opinions on consoles vs PCs =)

Ok, what about the fact that I have a fairly new macbook. My concerns are noted above.

Sorry, but this just isn't a decision we can make for you, the two are too different. If you need to know which GPU is better, or have a question that needs answered, we can help... But we can't tell you what's best for you here

If nothing else, what games you play/will want to play weighs heavily in this type of decision
