FYI these aren't as good as the old ones for wiping your ass. Much less absorbant.

The average lifespan of a bill is what, 11 months, if I remember correctly. Counterfeiting one old bill would probably be easy (just claim it was stored in a safe, undesturbed location). But suddenly having thousands of old bills in perfect new condition should certainly raise suspicions. Counterfeiting a bill in bad condition is far harder than in perfect condition.

uh, you counterfeit them in perfect condition then induce forced wear.

the method i saw on some documentary about this was running the cut bills through a dryer with a bunch of poker chips in it to bash them up a bit.

btw, just checked my wallet. every bill in it is more than 5 years old.

somehow i doubt your "11 months" figure.

The problem is that they keep making dollar bills. Of course people are going to continue to use the bills because that is their habit. Stop making the bills, and people will complain for a bit and then suck it up. Canada and the UK managed to do this very well, it's just us that can't get our act together.

because we're better than canada and the UK.

Wow, what a piece of shit that new $100 bill is.

The technology behind it is impressive, sure, but it looks like they threw it all on and said fuck it to the design. A huge blue stripe down the middle, and a random inkwell with a liberty bell in the middle. WTF?

It would've been so much better if they tried to organically integrate some of the new features... instead it looks like a third grader designed it. It's a shame, there's so much good looking money in the world, but we have one of the uglier designs.

Seriously, the treasury should take a hint from romania's currency:

Looks like monopoly money. Screw that shit, I want bald eagles clutching arrows and weapons on my money. Throw in some bombs and an F-15 or three as well. I want AMERICAN money, not some pink fru-fru crap. Maybe a poisonous snake on the back with big fangs while they're at it.

Lol, that wasn't my point, but ok.

I collect international currencies, and Romania isn't the only country that makes interesting looking money.

The point was, is that they could design the money to look like anything they want, instead they took the same basic design they've had for a hundred years and dropped some random security features on it.

Well the $100 Bill is going to be worth the same as a Romanian Lei by the time the Feds are done with it.

One of the above posters had a cool idea.

I want one of these babies launching a nuclear missile on the $100.

Isn't it time the Americans started colour coding their money like all the cool countries do.

(snip picture of Virginia-class sub)

That would be awesome. There was a battleship on a bill back in the late 1910s, so it's not without precedent.

Can't find a big picture at the moment, but here's a little one:

So how many tax dollars did the government spend on that fancy-ass 3D rendering bullcrap?

Bonus points if the job was awarded as a no-bid contract.

You do realize that counterfeiting has a cost to the economy, right? Other countries have done quite a bit more to prevent counterfeiters but the US has lagged, mostly because too many people complain when they change the appearance.
