New design for the $100 bill, with more anti-counterfeiting features

That stripe in the middle is quite a big change. I'm still not sure what that will look like in person. Also the gigantic numeral "100" on the back.

I know they just redid the $5-$50 with the new coloring/etc, but I wonder if they're going to be bringing the stripe to the lower denominations.

I still wish they would shake up the subject a bit more -- somebody new in the portrait, or a different reverse design. No disrespect meant to ol' Ben.

I like Ben being on money.

Seems like it would be less trouble to counterfeit $5s. No one checks, no one would notice. I guess crime has never been about safety. :p

Not bad, but we will need to know when to swap the old ones out for newer ones.

They never stop accepting old money in the US. You could pay your taxes or whatever with a $100 from 1880.

(That would be stupid, since you could also sell it to a collector for a hell of a lot more, but legally it is still worth $100.)

I think the new design is a little bit confusing, and hard to fully grasp from an Internet video. They should send out samples to help people recognize the new bills. I would like to offer my assistance in distribution of these samples.

i never understood the whole 'updating money' thing. i mean, i'm sure it stems counterfeiting a bit, but we still have hundreds from before the PREVIOUS redesign floating around as perfectly legal tender...what's to stop counterfeiters from just making the older, easier bill?

Same. He deserves the respect.

I'd say he's the most important non-President politician in our history. Then again, I'm biased toward family. ;)

iirc i'm related to ben franklin, too. as are a whole shitpile of people. don't feel special.

So how many tax dollars did the government spend on that fancy-ass 3D rendering bullcrap?

Bonus points if the job was awarded as a no-bid contract.

Are American notes still all the same size? If so, why does America hate blind people so much?

Other countries have truly pretty money, (granted they are third world countries so this money goes for paying children to work in sweat shops- wait, it goes to the guys forcing children to work in sweatshops, hookers, crack, and other fucked up shit), but our money is lame. I mean yah we can say SHOW ME THE GREEEN BABY while other countries have to say SHOW ME THE RAINBOW, which makes it seem kinda like they want gay buttsex, but other than that there aren't really any perks to our lame old dinero.

Also the video is so stupid.

"Know its features"

Alright gov... I see what you are spending your money on. You couldn't just show us a front/back picture.

Also also- I thought George W. Bush was gonna be on it?

I would think they take the old money out of circulation as it comes back to banks.

The numbers were made big assed and goofy already for the 3-5% of the "low vision" population:

Felix, the point is that all denominations use the same size paper bill. A truly blind person can't feel the difference between $1 and $100. The size of the type doesn't matter.

uh, he's saying is all the money the same size, as in, is a $1 bill the same size as a $100 bill.

with the bills being all the same size, the only way for a truly blind (or very nearly blind) person to know what they have is to have someone else ID their money for them (which they can then organize, fold, or otherwise mark so that they can pull out the right bill).

I was going to post something along the same lines (make them different sizes so the blind know what bills they have). But, they finally made a blind-friendly feature. They have raised printing. From their website:
When holding the note, move your finger up and down Benjamin Franklin's shoulder on the left side of the note. It should feel rough to the touch...
I hope for the blind's sake, that they give different textures to all of the different bills if they won't change the size.

Alexander Hamilton is right there with him, I'd say.

Anyway, is the 3D ribbon as good as Avatar?

I'm waiting for US currency with Black Man Avatar on the front.
