These Screens Are Usually Manufactured By a Bigger Name (Ie alot are sharps or NECs), If you can crack open the case there will be a Model # of the "REAL" Manufacturer on the Back. If its a Sharp it should start with either an LQ or LM. Then Go and Search for that M# on google, You'll get a Bunch of spec Sheets, And Several PDF documents, Plus a Few retailers who sell Converters, Which might be easiest because they only Run ~40-50 Dollars. Problem is, Most of these sites require the Buyer to actually be a Business, So Do what You want there. otherwise, there Fairly Easily Adaptable.

ahaha this is funny. people see lcd and jup on it w/o thinking. You can get tons of laptop lcds and chances are you wont be able to use it on pc. most laptops use proprietary connection to supply *digital* signal and power

Seriously though, I am very interesting in one of these for a case mod, if someone smart can tell us hardware challenged guys how to do it. : )

I am doing that to my PIA cube. www.directron.com/babycase.htm I believe has pictures. I milled a nice piece of carbon fiber board(hey..it looks cool, and it needs to be bulletproof :) ), and mounted the lcd to that. Then I took a 8x10 photo frame and attached it to it. When im finished Ill get some pictures up. I put it on hinges too, so it swings out to face you with the case sitting natrually. Its nice since this is my server, and when I drag it to lan parties I hate taking another monitor. This saves me one(of many) trips out to the car.

Garrett.

I bought two of these and they arrived yesterday. Interested parties can contact me, but I'm giving it my best shot to get them working as an LCD to my X10 system.

Ah, the long lost IOpener... mine sits in a corner and serves mp3s on occasion. I got in on the craze in that first week and it sure was fun building it!

OK. So, hooking it up to PC would require a $200 controller and I'd need to know the pin out. How about using it for video in the car or something? Is it possible to build/buy and adapter for video in(NTSC). I wouldn't think it would be too complex or expensive since you can get those little 5" with the video in for less than $100. Maybe it's possible to take the guts from one of them and use it with the 10".

It would be incredibly difficult AND complex.
Those "cheap" LCD's for the car have a special highly-integrated chipset to perform the NTSC to digital signal conversion.

Think of it this way... you can pick up a PC motherboard pretty cheap, but it would cost a ridiculous amount of money to build one from scratch using parts from Radio Shack!

Assuming you could even gather all the components to build an NTSC to digital LCD converter, most of those chips will be PQFP surface-mount components with millions of pins the size of hairs. Or worse, BGA with inaccessible pins. It would be almost impossible to solder them onto any kind of circuit board without special equipment that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Yes, you could if you have TV out. Most of those video lcd's have rca inputs.

Hey Tanner :)

I was wondering the same thing. If there is a way to get one to work in a car, like hooked to a PS2, DVD player etc.. I would love one :)
