unless you're working with 50-100k of capital you're not going to get any discounts; in fact, unless you're working with said amount of capital, newegg will probably be cheaper

D&H Distributing, TechData, Ingram Micro

But you probably won't save much over NewEgg and the likes.

Newegg is going to be the best bet. I know several people throughout the US who own PC repair businesses and they all go through Newegg.

Not to intrude, but that business sounds like a nightmare. Imagine all of the tech-support calls you will be recieving, whether it is their fault or not. I could not imagine building and selling custom-built PC's to strangers...I think I would rather do a swan dive on to a rusty butter knife that is sticking out of a pile of fresh dog pooh.

10lbs???

Newegg will not work, you can buy computers from Wal-Mart for $500 with a 17" lcd. For me to build a computer with the same specs it would cost me at least $700. And then how am I to make a profit?

If we cant find a wholesaler i guess we will just repair them, but we lose all the fun in building new computers.

well no shit. you make custom computers to get top of the line performance or to meet a specific demand, not to pump out cheap ass computers. the cost of the OS license alone will make any attempts at competing based on cost a losing battle.

Well they will not get our personal cell numbers, only the office number. And if we can not have it fixed with in 10mins on the phone they will have to bring the computer in to us.

Not really, people want cheap computers. And since we have an area to work on computers unlike Wal-Mart we can beat them. But no if we can't come close to their prices. $100 profit on a computer is fine.

So uh, was that a counter point or an agreement that you can't beat walmart on price? hell you can't beat dell, compaq, hp, gateway, or sony on price either.

I can get cheaper prices on the licenses. My point is not to offer the same price, but a price in the same ballpark. And since we have a local place they can be fixed, the customers will be happy. In stead of having to ship the computer somewhere.

how are you going to get chaper prices?to get anything that matters you are going ot have to deal in a huge volume.

you are going to have to be within $100 to even get people to think about it.

which you are NOT going to be able to do.

then you have to add support etc.

the local place is nice. but thats not going to bring in many people.

I have my connections. I don't have to pay for rent. The adds are going to be paid by the owner of the store. So ido not have to dish out for things like that.

I tried this in college... Didn't work then, for all the reasons people are saying. Costs too much, and unless you have a support staff in place, once calls start coming in, that's all you'll be able to do: support. and more support.

plus, unless they're alternator-sized, approximately 10 lbs, and available online, nobody wants 'em.

And you have market research to prove this?

Yes software is legal, I'm not that stupid. Rent is free untill we starting makeing good money. And then it is split 70/30, we get 70, he gets 30. I am not trying to prove anything here, nor am i trying to argue. So please post if you are going to help with my original post.

Thanks.
