Action replay is nice, you have the option of downloading all the updated games through the internet if you have you PS2 online.

Don't know if the others offer that?

Never had any problems with AR for any system.

networkman: WTF is a "real gamer," anyway? Please define this so I can laugh at you some more.

Real gamer = Somone who never cheats or takes advantage of bugs or exploits or bunny hops or guns that can kill the enemy, dosent use mines, dosent use vehicles or aircraft or anything anyone might consider "n00bish" or "cheap"

This type of gamer is commonly refferred to as a "loser" and gets "pwned" by everyone else :) Including myself.

I like Codebreaker. What I'll normally do is first just beat the game. Then I use Codebreaker to beat it again, just a lot faster. :)

I love that Jail Exploit in Oblivion :)

I'm gonna say Code Breaker as well. I had it for my PS2 when I had PS2. The main reason is Code Breaker has frequent updates on CMGSCCC.com or Game Software Code Creators Club. Code Breaker has a feature called Day 1, which is basically saved game files that gives you everything from Day 1, and you don't even have to manually enter all the codes.

Since ppl have their own opinion of what a real gamer is. I think networkmans is someone who is good enough at game to not have to cheat. But ppl use cheats in different ways then just being able to beat a game. Like shorty said he just wanted to be able to get to the goods quickly to make the game fun and doesn't wanna work for them. He never said he couldn't beat a game and needed to cheat like I think networkman thought.

I like Action Replay Max. Codebreaker is good but the one I got for my PS2 didn't work and the seller wouldn't take it back. Apparently some versions just don't work well. They have lousy customer service and support.

Let us know which one you get. And how it works. I've only seen the GameShark in action , and it seems to work well. But I've heard good things about the Action Replay.

And I don't think that these are bad things to have. But I always try to play through things by myself to get an idea of how the game REALLY is. There are times when I have friends over that you may wanna go straight to something to show it off , or need something unlocked for a multi-player deal. Across all my platforms , I try to play the crap outta everything just so everything is unlocked , in case someone comes over and wants to play it. Sometimes , it's just not fun to start out playing with nothing. Sometimes you want dropped straight into mix , with full armor, unlimited ammo , and extra blood , ready to handle your buisness, ya know what I mean?

I've got a GameCube , and two PS2's one on the network , and one for just home play. And of course the PC. I like to have a bit of everything. So that I can see what is "Cool" for whatever platform.
I've been Anti-Xbox though , because I've got a computer. Either way , that's what I think a "Real-Gamer" is. I love all games , and I'm 29 years old. I've sold my bike , and gotten married , and bought a house. Now games are my hobby to keep me sane. Calling this kind of thing "cheating", is for someone that says they will play through a game to 100% on their own without assistance. Then you may consider it "cheating".

I'm generally not one to tell people how to play their games, but if you're going to use some kind of cheat, why on earth would you do it with the games you listed? FFX-2 and FF9 are 95% story games. You don't play FF's to get the phat loot like you would Diablo, you play them to enjoy the characters and the story. The other 5% of FF is all the hidden bonus stuff that Square puts there for the diehards - the only point of doing that stuff is for the sense of accomplishment. The fun factor is typically rather low. I don't really know the Grandia series, but it's a similar CRPG, right? Should be about the same deal. And while CVSotN is a GREAT game, it's also totally unnecessary to cheat at. Save points are everywhere, you quickly become extremely powerful, and the game is just generally fun to play. The bosses are occasionally tough, but again, you'll have a save point moments before.

If you're going to cheat, do it for something truly hard, like DMC3 or Ninja Gaiden. Or Battletoads. At the very least, try out your games for a while before you go cheating at them.

Cheating at FF? Yeesh...

I have a CodeBreaker, and I've had no problems with it.

My brother uses it to play GTA: San Andreas, because he doesn't actually play the game, he just runs around destroying things.

Agreed with the FF stuff...unless you want it to be easy (I would grind, and be a couple levels ahead of where you would normally be) you are usually on track sticking with the story.

I have this overwhelming urge to say bad things about your mother. Especially after the rolling eyes crap.

I am NOT a real console gamer. I havent been since the Snes days. I dont feel like spending butt-loads of time building up money just to buy the goodies I want.
I just want to get to the fun.

On a Windows game I am willing to spend time and earn the rewards. But thats because computer RPG's are a heck of a lot more balanced than console RPG's. You dont have to do a grind just to be properly outfitted.
The only exception to that is MMORPG's, but I dont like those anyway.

Actually, that sounds like quite the opposite. I'm used to consoles having WAY better RPGs. Maybe if you took the time to play through them, you would see that.

I don't recommend cheating, especially on FF games. That's insulting.

Don't go with gameshark. I bought one awhile ago and a couple of months later the memory card corrupted or something and now when ever I try to boot it up it freezes at a load screen. No scratches on the disc. IDK how much different gs2 is but I would stay away from it.
Anyway, I used it mostly for making cars go 999mph in gran turismo 3. I would never use it for a FF game. It's not going to speed up the progress of the game, it's just going to bore you because you kill everthing without even trying. Also, you will have nothing to gain because you will already have it... FF games are all about the story. And what are you talking about grinding? Usually you will be able to go right through the game without having to gain extra levels. Hell, I beat FF9 while my characters were in their 50's.
Although, I wouldn't care if you use cheats for FFX-2 because that game sucked anyway;)

Yeah, especially the more recent games (9+). The only reason to grind is if you did some really stupid with your character development and hit a boss that you can't tackle because of it.

To give some perspective on this, it took my wife a week of practice to beat Glass Joe in Mike Tyson's Punch Out, so a hardcore gamer she is not. But she still finished FFX.

But here's the question: Why do you really care if someone cheats? It's no skin off your back.

I cheated at FFX-2 because: 1) The game started off sucking, and I was told it would continue to do so; 2) I still wanted to know what happened in case it had relevance in a better game down the line. So, I put on some codes that would end even the longest battles in seconds. I paid for my rental, and I got out of it what I wanted.

Sometimes I'll cheat the second time through, or maybe just to muck around without saving. GTA, for example, is fun to spawn yourself a great car instead of running all the way across town to find it where you already know it's going to be. I don't have the time sometimes. Or maybe to stick a plane in an odd/random area.
