<< It had been working fine in Windows XP, but this started when I upgraded my system to Windows 2000 Pro. With Nero properly installed, it will start to burn an audio CD, but at about 5%, it will quit with an "unspecified recorder error". So I put in the CD that came with the drive and it said that it needed to update the ASPI drivers, so I let it do that, thinking that might be the problem. One reboot and one more ruined CD later, I realized that that was apparently not the matter. I tried looking on Philip's site to see what they had to say about it, but their site is not very helpful. BTW, this is a PCRW1208 (iirc that's the model number, anyway it's 12x8x36x). Any suggestions please?? >>

It turns out the problem was that Nero wanted to write CD-Text, which my burner can't do. So upon disabling the CD-Text, it works great! :D

If you can try it in another PC, perferrably a Win98 box, that should tell you if the drive is fubared or not.

Years ago HP got into deep sh!t with their HP branded Phillips drives. After that, I've steered clear of both HP and Phillips burners.
