Never trust your drill sergeant's electrical experience

For those of you that don't know what you're looking at, there is supposed to be a fuse in place of the drill bit that was placed in the socket.

and for the record, drill sergeants only exist in a basic training environment. However, NCO's (non-commissioned officers, aka sergeants) are everywhere.

Its a combat zone, they probably have a shortgae of fuses, wire, water, ammo, Home Depots, Lowes and other such things.
Rule #1. You use what you have.

You can actually get in serious trouble for doing stuff like that in Iraq. That beloved patriot power wire and those outlets are notoriously bad. That is apparently installed in one of our buildings, maybe a tent, or a hut, possibly a temporary interior wall or something. Troops have been killed in fires and such from stuff like that. It is also usually KBR's job to install and work on stuff like that, people aren't supposed to jury rig stuff themselves.

We called them tactical instructors.
