Never trust the government to deliver anything

Seriously, the US government has no business delivering packages. First off, if you live in an apartment apparently they are "not allowed" to leave the package at your leasing office. Some stupid government rule says they have to deliver it to your mailbox or, if it doesn't fit, they leave it at your door (now why would that be "more secure" than a leasing office?)

Second, their "Delivery Confirmation" is useless. It does NOT require a signature unless the package is insured for $50+. I ordered $16 worth of cables...so no luck with that. I don't know who picked it up, if anyone. And package weight isn't tracked either...so there's no way to know if the company/person you order from just sent a postcard or if they sent you an actual package.

Third, their customer service is the worst in the business--oh wait, they're government employees so what was I expecting? Took 15 minutes just to find the right phone number and key combination to get a live person (hint: you have to hit "0" six times...and then you STILL have to respond to voice prompts.) She didn't help at all in terms of telling me what course of action I should take to find out exactly where the package was delivered.

And finally...their service isn't even cheap!! Delivery for my package cost $6.05 with DC. I could've gotten FedEx Saver or UPS 3-day for about the same price. I wish MonoPrice.com used a more reliable shipper.

Last apartment I lived in (although many years ago), the postman used to leave my packages with the office:confused:

Last apartment I lived in they had seperate large mail boxes for packages. If you weren't home, they put the key to that package in your mailbox and tell you which number to open, after removing the package the key will stay put in the lock.

I thought all large complexes either did this or the staff held it for you

I've never had a problem with them. Also, I never even could get them to leave anything at my townhouse. They always left me a slip that said I had to go pick it up at the local PO. Now that I own a home they just leave packages on my covered porch.

Same here. That was true of USPS, UPS and FedEx deliveries.

I have a similar problem with Fedex. They leave my packages, not just outside my door, but outside the entire dorm. UPS makes sure it's at least inside, and all packages from USPS have to be picked up at the campus center, so they're safe.

imagine if the government was not involved with postal service. what would stop businesses from monopolizing the service and charging outrageous prices?

For me it costs something like $4 to get stuff shipped here with USPS, and $15+ with UPS/FEDEX. The USPS isn't the government though.

Um your mailman sucks then.... Our mail guy leaves all packages at the office... they have a room set up for it and everything.. he leaves slips in the box saying the leasing office has your package..

Considering how little they charge and how quick they are, I think they're great. I wouldn't ship a computer using them, but small priority mail packages rock.

Wrong, the USPS is a part of the government, but it does not recive money from taxes. It is self supporting through the postage you pay.

Whenever I had something shipped with DC the postman would never leave it, just the card I had to use to go pick it up at the PO. If he had simply left it I would've filed a complaint.
