mp3 192 kbps/cbr fo' life!

Seriously, my 5,000 songs are encoded this way, I'm not going to redo them all, plus now, I don't want to switch to a different format.

The OP was playing them in WMP on a computer... OK, he could convert them to mp3 for portability, but that was not the goal. Stay close to loseless and you can reorg and write to disc without additional apps. Pretty simple.

CDex + LAME IMO.. heh.. I wish you could do itunes+lame... it'd be perfect for quite a few ppl I know.

lossless.. i started to rip my collection to FLAC.. but then realized, I don't have the HD space and backup for it.

yup. Maybe I should change my ways so future kyparrish doesn't hate 2005 kyparrish as much.

WMA even a 96 it still sounds really good and my little mp3/wma player and a 512mb card I can hold more music. So for me WMA is my fav.

Get a new hard drive and rip them in FLAC....Just convert them to mp3/ogg/wma to put them on an ipod or something.

I just hope you didnt use WMA. :(

Yeah I hate using formats that sound better at lower bitrates
I want to hear the answer too as I was thinking what you posted.

Why would you want to rip at a lower bitrate anyway? It's not like hard drive space is expensive any more, and MP3s...gasp..play ANYWHERE, and I've never had an mp3 crash winamp, WMA however...

wma plays in everything i have except my ipod, which isn't a big deal, since i don't load music on the fly like i do with my rio + sdcard.

As for crashing, i've NEVER had wma crash.

If you're a noob to ripping I'd suggest selecting MP3 in media player rip settings and at least a bit rate of 192 if not more.

Maybe I'm just living in 2000

Hey its a good system though! Then I library my folders so that they are:

X:\Music\Artist\CD Title\00 Track.mp3

Then I enjoy them all using iTunes :)

Why don't you just use iTunes from the start to rip & organize them?

And OP, how have you been listening to your music for the past 5 years? One CD at a time?

Not an ipod fanboy. I dont buy anything that is way over priced. Apple, is overpriced junk. It does what it says... but thats it. My mp3 player reads wma. That is what i ripped it to. I can fit more on it with wma than mp3 anyways. At least i think so. Not to mention, if i use it lossless, i can convert it to 128 and really get portability out of it.
