I don't know who this person is or where the video is from, but this woman should be allowed to speak on every news channel across the world.

I hadn't seen her before but her name is in a snapshot at the beginning of the video. What's telling is the reaction of the guy she's debating with who says "You are a heretic and there is no point in responding to your heresies." Hard to have a dialogue if the people you are trying to convince won't listen to what you have to say, and simply condemn your views without a response.

I haven't been here all that long, but welcome to P&N.

I just wiki'd her, and apparently this video has been around since February. She was named in the top 100 most influential people of 2006 by Time magazine. I can see why.

Interesting video. But i wonder if most of the righties here like it just because its a muslim praising the west. A "Look see! Were right! Even this muslim woman says so!"

I wonder if she is dead yet. :(

edit: the above post was made before getting to the heated discussion about secular humanism.

I like how her voice reverberates around the room. When I grow up I want to be a leader of nations and every time I speak, even in a small room without a megaphone, my voice will literally echo around the room, piercing people's consciousness.

Anyhow, she's well spoken, although it's nothing I've not heard before, but there is a big gap between the progressive societies and the cancerous middle eastern ones.

"we have not seen a single jew blow himself up in a german restaurant", now that is actually quite salient!

Great video, love the way she shuts up the Islamic guy, he doesn't seem to be able to come up with any thing to counter her.

Maybe we can get her to make a AT account and start posting here :)

What a brave woman... I wonder how high the bounty is on her head? I think everyone in here should applaud her behavior but I'm pretty sure Narmer will find a way to applaud the guy who called her a heretic :D

It seems that politics is the same no matter where you go.

When confronted with a truth that cannot be confronted intellectually, the opposition with pull out the dodge card.

What a joker that guy is, you are a heretic I can't talk to you.

Granting full equality to women is something that I think has given much of the West a much needed dose of civility. I don't see how societies excluding nearly 50% or more of their population can ever achieve greatness in this age.

What an idiot. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any problem with her statements being directed at terrorists and their sympathizers, but like every other idiot Muslim basher on the planet, she falls into the trap of generalizing. She is given a golden opportunity to make it clear just who she is talking about at the beginning of the video when she's asked if she's talking about a clash between "The West" and "Muslims", and she agrees...generalizing all Muslims as evil, backward oppressors (and everyone in the west and good and righteous). Of course she's loved by the right, she's cut from the same mold as Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity...the fact that she's from a different part of the world doesn't make the statements any smarter.

I distrust fanatics of all ideologies on principle...you can't be a smart fanatic, even if your motives and beliefs are good. She may not be blowing things up like the Islamic radicals, but in the long run her actions are just as damaging. The more people push this "clash of civilizations" between "the west" and "Muslims", the more people on both sides will feel that the only way to survive is to "win" by destroying the other side. This is of course not the case, but when enough people on both sides feel that it is, it might as well be true.

Rain, the radicals want to destroy both sides, Muslims and non-Muslims, and replace them with their specific view of Islam.

This isn't Muslims vs. non-Muslims, this is crazies verse the rest of the world.

In the end Rainsford, I'm 100% sure she is just trying to accomplish a couple of things which are very important.

Firstly, she's trying to make people see that turning a blind eye to radical fundamentalism is just as bad as being one yourself. If you aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem. If you can rationalize someone who blows themself up killing innocent civillians you are in a way just as guilty.

Secondly, she's coming on very strong to prove a point. She's doing the same thing that Al Gore says when he claims New York will be under water in 20 years.

She's going over the top to get the message out to the masses.

Of course she's loved by the right, she's cut from the same mold as Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity...the fact that she's from a different part of the world doesn't make the statements any smarter.

Well considering that she is from the Middle East and a Muslim, I think she has that right. You have the right to disagree, but she has the right to say what she wants and considering where she is from vs. where we are from its tough to criticize her.

Umm, I do believe you have totally gone insane.

How can someone who is chastizing Islamic people for their lack of toleration for others, and in turn Islamic people for being tolerant of those who are the problem in the first place, and calling for reform to join the rest of the civilized world as much of a problem as Bin Laden?

She's preaching for tolerance. She's preaching for civil rights for all. She's asking Islam to join the rest of the world in relative peace and prosperity.

So she goes a bit over the top and lumps all Muslims together to drive her point home. How is this more damaging than Bin Laden who trains young men and women to go blow up themselves and kill innocents?
