In the past few weeks I've had a P4-2.4b CPU and a Sony CPD-G400 monitor fail at home. Not only that, my 3rd system has taken a liking to BSOD's and memory dumps and that's after a fresh load of WinXP running default speeds. I had to take it down because of the constant reboots so I'm down about 8-9 WU's per day on that machine.

On to work... In the past couple of weeks I've lost a P3-1Ghz and a P4-1.8Ghz (another 8 WU's per day). I have managed to add a few P3-1Ghz laptops to the fleet but it seems every machine I add I lose another one somewhere else. 🙁

Well, I should have another P3-1Ghz laptop up and running sometime today.
 
Some weeks my fleet seems to have issues! This is the first time in a long time that the TeAm M&M Fleet is firing on all cylinders!! (Knock on Wood!) So, I feel your pain!! 🙁

 
I hear ya. Can't seem to keep my meager little fleet running on all cylinders lately. Between circuit breakers tripping when I'm not home, to heat related shut downs, it's one thing or another. 🙁

I feel your pain ROBOR, fortunately I haven't had many hardware probls of late. (knock on wood). But I have in the past, and they SUCK big time. 🙁

Not sure what the problem is. I popped the case and checked all the connections and reseated everything. I ran Memtest and it went through a pass (about 12 minutes) without any errors. Set the BIOS back to defaults (just in case) and did a fresh install of XP. During the install I had a BSOD and rather than troubleshoot it I let it reboot and continue setup just to see what happens. It finished without a problem and I applied all of the patches/updates without any further problems.

Crap... As I write this it's sitting next to me downloading WU's and it just rebooted on it's own again. Oh well, I'm too tired to troubleshoot it any further. As far as I'm concerned it can sit and reboot until I feel like looking at it again.

Yeah, of course I couldn't do that...

Now it's sitting at the login screen and I just got a "Windows - Corrupt FIle" error. I'm gonna run a chkdsk /f /r and see what happens... Hehe... what a mess... scrolling screen of errors. Hopefully I found the problem with this machine. 🙂
 
Any swelled or leaking CAPACITORS on that board? I had one that acted similiarly. Replaced ALL the capacitors on the board and all is well for a year now! 🙂

This is the 2nd round with this system in the last week or so. It had a faulty CPU that I verified in another machine. I got the CPU RMA'ed and installed it but it's still unstable. Last time I tried a different PS and stick of RAM but that was before determining the CPU was bad. I didn't check all the caps though. It's in the system and there's too much in the way to examine it properly.

I'm going to install MB Monitor and see what turns up... Okay, the CPU temp reads 61C with SETI@Home running. Turned SETI off and CPU temp slowly dropped to 53C. This is at default FSB and voltage and with a retail HS/F and AS Ceramiquie applied. Seems way too hot - if the MB monitor temp is correct anyway.

The HS seems to be be making good contact - there's no play or slop. It's getting late here so I'm going to pull the cover and let it run overnight to see if it stays up without any BSOD's or reboots. It is 19% through a SETI WU. 🙂\\\

Strange you mention that, because I know a (non-tech-literate) guy who's several year old custom built computer (by one of the local shops) was acting funny, and when he took it in to be worked on, the tech found several leaking capacitors. I feel kind of sorry for him - he's already had to replace a modem, hard drive, and CD-ROM in the thing, and finally got sick of it and ordered a Dell. 🙁

Me personally, though, I've not had any hardware problems lately... (knocks on wooden desk)

Btw I've had an ATX plug with a bad connection give randoom reboots ,the connection was sufficiently bad enough to char the plug brown!:Q ,I squeezed the terminals togther a bit & it was fine after that😉 ,same trick I use on bad connections in car loom plugs!
 
No puter problems here, but car problems out the a$$.

Honda, brakes, distributor, heater, motor mounts.
Ford, rear axle rebuild.

No puter problems lately.
I had the same problem with the blown caps also.
I replaced the mobo. It was a dually... 🙁
