Never give the cops anything...

I hope so, the cops have ZERO excuse. They are SPECIFICALLY trained for this sort of thing. You can't use the excuse that they were not trained for it.

I was looking though the article to find the common response from the police department to be something like....

"We can't comment on pending litigation" (translation: We know we f----ed up so that's the only thing we can say right now to cya)

So where did the suspicion come from that the cookies were laced?

"Phillips, 18, was arrested Tuesday after Lake Worth officers smelled marijuana in the basket and their preliminary tests detected LSD"

I'm just curious when they drop all charges do they erase all the records they made from charging him including bringing him into the station, fingerprinting, mug shot etc.....

I'm more concerned with that considering if your fingerprints are somewhere in the future they can be used against you.

Marijuana is not the only substance that can have that smell. Maybe his basket was smelling ???? I don't know but I don't see how you can arrest someone just because they have the smell of marijuana.

I don't know what's so hard to understand...

They smell marijuana so they do a quick drug test on the cookies and it comes up as having LSD in them. They arrest the kid and send the cookies off to get tested and turns out their preliminary test was wrong.

Seems pretty logical to me if the test was really at fault and there's no other funny business going on.

Basket could have been made from hemp.

Did they test for feces and pubic hairs too?

yet he said his friend 'may have been smoking weed' so they weren't completely wrong. If his friend was smoking weed, they should be arrested.

Probable cause. Until proven otherwise you are guilty in situations like this.

K:JSDFNGJL:ND:GVJKLFDG😀GLLDF ok now that that is out.

His friend was smoking a joint while making the cookies?.the accused admitted it. Ok yes he said ?maybe? his friend was, but if you admit maybe in a case like this it is a yes otherwise you would never say maybe or yes. That was the first stupid mistake.

They were not arresting him for having a smell of marijuana, they were arresting him because they felt he was trying to cause harm with the cookies. That?s why they tested the officers who ate the cookies and the cookies themselves.

The video showed the chief saying they had no regrets.

REALLY? No regrets after messing with someone like that? Bunch of jerks.

You should be arrested for talking out of your ass.

unfortunate that his reputation/past record made them suspicious.

i wouldn't trust cookies given to me by a stranger, but they still ate them.
