Hey, they just opened one in Elk Grove. My buddy and I went there, and it was filled to capacity, and overflowing.

We just went into the bar, asked this dude if he could move over one seat, so we could have the only two seats in the bar, ordered our ribeyes, and were out of there while most of the original peeps were still waiting inline outside with their little beeper thingies. ;)

We had a great sense of timing / opportunity. Actually, the steaks we were served were quite good. :D

Yea that is the one we went too. Near Power Inn and Calvine.

Who on earth sits waiting for 2 hours or more to eat in a restaurant ?

People who live in medium cities where literally every single place to eat (except fast food) has that kind of wait. Where I am isn't that bad but an hour wait would be considered normal and maybe a little quick for a Saturday night with a much longer wait for the better places. And that's everywhere from olive garden and applebees to the high end steak houses.

A lot of restaurants around here which don't take reservations will do call-ahead seating (Chili's, Applebee's, Olive Garden, etc.).

Call and get your name on the waiting list, they'll tell you how long the wait is. If it's an hour, show up an hour later and you'll be seated pretty quick. It's exactly as though you showed up in person to put your name on the list, then left and came back later.

if a place is so busy there is a 2 hour wait, what makes you think things will improve once you are seated?

if a place is busy, go elsewhere

When I eat to Cheesecake factory it often takes 2 hours to be seated, but it never taken 2 more hours to have our order taken.

I never ate at a resturant that took more than an hour to get our order taken after we were seated.

unless its a high end restaurant, why would you wait 2 hours for a table?

Well we were told the food was amazing which is why we waited. Any there are some places like Cheesecake factor where a 2 hour wait is well worth it.

we need to find the best thing about NYC thread...

if your idea of good food is Cheesecake Factory, or ANY chain restaurants, you have some major issues. A 2 hour wait for a table is ONLY valid for a walk-in at a 4 star restaurant. anything less and you're just kidding yourself.

I once waited half an hour for a table once. and the waiter was slow with the service. But he came over later to explain that they had a big party in the back and were understaffed. i spent about 3 hours at that place. Difference was, the manager came over, comped our desserts and drinks. its like a 2 star brazilian place in the upper east side. I went back the next week and got some more great food.
