I know this one's never been asked before. :)

I post on different BBBs. Some require cookies to be enabled, others don't. As a rule, my main PC is locked down tight, so obviously, cookies are disabled.

When I post to the BBBs that require cookies to be enabled, I have to go Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom Level/enable/disable. All that takes time.

Can a map a keyboard combo to disable/enable cookies? As a toggle-type thing?

edit: sorry, by your description, I see your talking Windows...

Is there a reg key associated with the cookie preference? You could probably write a little script for it.

Alternatively, you could just use IE6 and selectively allow cookies per site.

Whoa. Me, write a script? Well, I can write script...er...cursive, but that's about it. :)

AFA IE6 goes, (don't laugh too hard) I know that IE6is part of WinXP; I seem to remember reading somethign, somewhere, that stated IE6 was evil and packed with spyware/other intrusive things that limit/track your online time.

I really appreciate the replies. :)

Negative ghostrider. I would highly recommend it.

OK...educate me. Why is IE6 better than IE5 with all the updates/security patches?

This cookie management option is also available in Mozilla, Phoenix, & Netscape (I think in Opera, also). If you don't want to use IE6 (just visit MS website and read on IE6 vs. IE5), you can use a third-party cookie manager that basically provides the same options as IE6 (or other Mozilla-based browers I've mentioned).

Don't mean to get slightly off-topic, but I'm a web developer -- Disabling cookies with the advent of all the new web applications is in my opinion very degrading our your internet experience... So many things take advantage of cookies for legitimate workings of the application. I guarentee with cookies off your internet experience will be far different.. and even worse in the future.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and info. I'll read up on it.

\afa my paranoia goes; with the plethora of virii, spyware, adware and the subsequent spam mail, security breaches and stolen data, do you reallllllly need to ask why I'm so noided? :p THanks though. :)

Yes, we do. This is relational to living in a clean-air bubble because you are afraid of bacteria, IMHO, its just not practical to stop the functionality of the web because you are afraid of those things, most of which don't even apply very easily if you have your system up-to-date with patches. Spend more of your time visiting Windows Update and getting the latest security patches rather than trying to block cookies.

wow..and they are all after YOU in particular? All from a cookie? Cmon!

"plethora" of virii - How about a virus scanner?
spyware - AdAware once in a while if you must - anyway, does it really matter?
spam - Good luck on this one - just use the delete key for the ones that get past your bubble
security breaches - how about a firewall?
stolen data - c'mon - maybe you and Sandra Bullock should get together for the next blockbuster

Relax! You're needlessly working yourself up. It really ain't that bad out there...

What right do any of you have to question his motives? If you don't want to help then don't post.
Some peoiple are a little less apathetic than most... what I find ironic is that the apathetic ones make sure to scold the un-apathetic ones for not being apathetic enough. Stay in line MichaelD, just succumb to the same crap as everyone else okay, do you think you're better than us or something? :p
We all let cookies in, so should you.
