Oh, also what's the chances of me getting air sick?

Good chance if you are constantly thinking about it. You can work yourself into a frenzy. Just try to get a seat over the wings. That is where the center of gravity is and the least amount of movement. A window seat may help along with using the fans to blow air on your face. I would avoid trying to use alcohol to cope with the nervousness. The pressure altitude inside the airplane is around 8000 feet so it intensifies the effect of alcohol.

being by the wings sucks though. The engine noise is terribly loud compared to other seats.
Personally, flights used to be 'fun' for me, at least on my first and second flight. Now, my only thrill is the little bit of adrenaline I get from the takeoff (I like acceleration :)). Other than that, I cope with boredom by bringing an MP3 player and headphones. Although the bastards still make me endure like a half hour of boredom at the end when beginning to descend. My MP3 player is NOT going to mess with your avionics dammit!

Believe me...that pisses me off more than anything. I fly each week and so I have a litany of things to keep me from getting bored...but I always have to resort to a old paper book or a magazine during take off and landing periods...which I hate carrying around the extra wait. If you start flying regularly, I HIGHLY recommend Audible.com or some similar service if there is one out there. It allows me to read a lot of books without having to carry around the extra baggage.

However, even with this delay, the pilot has good news; he expects to be able to make up about 30 seconds during the flight, so the delay won't be as bad as it really sounds.

Well said. I have to say though, if you fly a lot for work and are on a frequent flyer program (or several)...it gets a lot better. In a lot of airports, first/business class get priority ticket counter and security lines. You get to board first, and the seats/service are generally a LOT better (drinks food served throughout the flight...including while you're on the ground) and they even hang things up for you like coats and suit jackets. Also, lines and such generally go faster as people who are in first class/business class generally travel a lot so they know a lot of the snafu's you run into at an airport and avoid them like the plague.

I know. I fly weekly too. ;) There is something very nice in sitting in first class knowing that you only paid about $200 for the cross-country ticket.

When the stewardess comes around asking if you want an alcoholic beverage tell her that you'll have what the pilot is having. Then make a joke about having a bomb. They really really like that.

They don't feed you on airlines anymore. People starve. Grab a large bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken to take along with you on the plane. You'll make lots of friends.
