Buy.com nearly ruined Christmas

on 12/10, I ordered a Guitar Hero bundle. Nothing spectacular, but a decent deal with GC. Got the usual confirmation e-mails from both buy.com and GC. So far so good.

on 12/14, I received a box. Oh joy! My son's present has arrived. Except that it's only half the order. Guitar was in the box, but no game. I double checked the invoice and it clearly said "BUNDLE". I looked at the e-mails which also said "BUNDLE". After MUCH digging (and cussing) I finally found the buried page containing a tracking number. FedEx indicated a single box, so it wasn't a split shipment.

At this point, I politely filed my first online request for customer service/support. Immediately received an autoreply. Crickets chirped. Pins dropped. Nothing further. OK, so maybe the e-mail filter caught their response. Unlikely since I received the autoreply, but still... I submitted a second request for cust. svc, this time including TWO UNFILTERED e-mail addresses as well as the original AND two telephone numbers. More crickets and pins in the deafening silence. Wash, rinse, repeat five more times.

I sent a total of seven electronic requests for service over the course of a week and have yet to receive a reply to any. Their autoreplies brag that "if you feel your request needs escalating, we can e-mail you a telephone number". Yeah right.

It's now 12/22, the final business day before Christmas. My wife had to go spend ANOTHER $40 to get the game to go with the guitar controller. Now buy.com owes ME money. I've never had a problem with them before other than the difficulty in tracking an order when using GC because they don't show up on the buy.com account page. However, screwing around with my kid's Christmas is way beyond unacceptable and they certainly won't get another cent from me. Moreover, I will tell anyone/everyone who will listen about getting ripped off. 'Caveat Emptor' when dealing with buy.com.

Screw you, buy.com
Merry @#$%ing Christmas

Yeah, I tried to cancel an order that I placed that went out-of-stock before they shipped it. It took around 2 weeks and several emails and phone calls. I figured it was maybe because I used Google checkout. I would still buy from them if whatever I want to buy is priced good.

I've never had to use their customer "(no)service" so I can't comment on that. But everything we have bought from them has arrived promptly.

If you ever have issues with buy.com expect to be let down.

They have never price matched anything for me...even though I followed their pricematching guide to the "T"...And they were total **cks the entire time...

Buy.com is great for when they have FAR or almost FAR stuff. They do not have customer service. I have emailed and used the phone number multiple times when orders have been srewed up. Bottom line is I only buy from Buy.com if I don't care about timing on what I purchased. They manufacturers have fixed buy.com's problems for me before, it just takes longer.

In my past experience, Amazon has the most amazing (best) customer service of ANY on-line or B&M store. I always buy from them if I need it immediately or if I am concerned about exchange/return.

Mods can move this thread to Brag & Moan whenever they have the chance.

BTW - Belongs in 'Brag & Moan'

after I posted and didn't see it appear ni Brag/Moan, I realized what I had done and edited the post to request it be moved.

As for calling them, it didn't occur to me until this morning that the SALES number might be able to get me to the support number. I spent an hour fruitlessly digging through the website for a support number a few days ago. Thus far, I've been on hold for nearly 45 minutes.

Never had a problem with buy.com.

BUY.COM Hours of Operation (MST): M-F 7AM-7PM, Sa 8AM-12PM 1-877-780-2464

or from resellerratings:
Call Buy.com corporate at 949-389-2000 and tell them you have a problem with your order and you DON'T want to talk to the 877 customer service number. They will take your order number, then put you in touch with someone who can actually tell you about your order, your claim status, and make changes to resend your order.

I can't believe you've waited a week and not called, or searched for a phone number to call. Also I know you're upset, I would be too, but I think a majority of your frustration is that you have to meet the deadline of Christmas... just think of the other millions of people in the same boat this time of year, personally I think it should be expected to get crappy customer service this time of year. Next year do your shopping a tad earlier. I'm sorry for your loss, and here's to hoping for a refund!

Customer Service around the holidays = hit or miss. Plain and simple. I will continue to do business with Buy.com but not around the holiday times... that's just asking for trouble.

Buy.com has always been great. I was shopping there when they were known as Buycomp.com and only sold computer parts.(1998 or so)
