I'm starting to get very annoyed with doing anything related to computers for anyone. I ordered a Dell for my sister a couple weeks ago (November 25th to be exact). She needed a very cheap laptop with wireless. There have been the following issues:
1) She expected to get it within a week. Sorry, but Dell does not build systems that fast, especially not at that time of year.
2) The system ended up not having a wireless card ordered with it (STILL not sure how that happened). No problem, Dell will send one free of charge. This was around the 8th. The card is showing a ship date of December 30th, so she will only have a working laptop over a month after she ordered it.
3) I gave here the choice of ordering from small business or home (advantages to both, different perks). While talking to her she asked why she didn't get the free printer (keep in mind she would sell it on Ebay for $20 as she already has a very nice inkjet). I distinctly remember discussing it with her. She forgot (and still does not remember).
4) She doesn't seem willing to fill out the two rebates associated with the laptop (1 for a seperate router and 1 for the laptop). It seems it is somehow too much work.
5) After all this, she mentions that a problem is that I ordered it under my Dell account. I gave her the option to set one up, or said I could order it. She wanted it under mine.
There's another person (someone I know, not really a close friend) who wanted a system in January. I think I am just going to take her to Circuit City and have her choose one. It is really too much of a pita to do it any more.
