What's even more fun (and dangerous!) is dropping 1 foot long 2x4's on a table saw blade spinning at full speed without the guard. Nice catapault effect. Just make sure nobody is on the other side of the blade! ;)

Sounds to me like a potato gun would be more fun. It's more portable and more powerful.

Hmm... what about firing a potato gun into a spinning table saw blade??

That sounds dangerous. I never do anything dangerous. ;)

make sure you go to the doctor's tomorrow or teusday so you can get antibiotics and something for the pain (lidocaine, probably). that's probably gonna get pretty infected if you don't get it taken care of.

Yeah. That hurts. I feel like such an idiot. I'm using my right thumb on the space bar, and it sucks. I think I hit a nerve or something because it seems like other fingers are tingling too. I managed to find a first aid kit in here (at work in a research lab), but it looks 50 years old. I threw out a few bandaids before I found one that didn't spontaneously open from the glue being so old. I was so desperate I trusted the little antibiotic ointment that came in a little single-serving pouch. Too bad there's no pain relief in there. This is gonna suck tonight... you know what they say about sore thumbs sticking out.

(Add this to the fact that I cut my right thumb two days ago with a pocket knife while trimming the burr off a PVC pipe cut. I didn't realize until after I cut myself that there was motor oil on the knife.)

Thanks for the tip.

you should make the title something like "im an idiot" or "why do bad things always happen to dumb people" or "i cut myself with my belt sander"

There's a plastic piece on the top that was rubbing. I unscrewed the little knob holding it on and was adjusting that a little further away from the belt when it happened. It had nothing to do with the centering knob. I already had that set.

so far so good. I've been putting neosporin on it, keeping it covered, and it was a brand new belt.
