Those grazing rights were contingent on his paying the grazing fees, which he has not done in 20 years. In other words, he's being evicted for failing to pay the rent, not because of the turtle.

There is no such thing as a grazing right on public land. There is a grazing lease which is subject to termination for failure to pay the annual fee. There is a "grazing preference" which gives preference to the current rancher in obtaining future leases on a particular piece of ground. Grazing preferences are inheritable, creating an arcane hereditary landed aristocracy based on publically owned land. Preferences are also saleable allowing ranchers to sell a preference to someone else. This is the equivalent of an apartment renter telling the landlord who the next renter shall be. It's a corrupt system.

I'm saying that if he had kept paying the grazing fees then the turtle probably would have never come up.
The simplest way to explain this is that, in real estate law, if a property owner allows a tenant to use the property for free for an extended period of time, then eventually the tenant can legally claim ownership (or exclusive rights) to the property. That's what Bundy was trying to do. It's called adverse possession, and I already linked to its wiki above.
Now imagine if more ranchers tried to do this, and you should be able to understand why the feds are so freaked out.

Well, just keep in mind we are only receiving news from those who are protesting...I'm not aware of any government leaked information on the situation.

Bundy has ZERO TITLE to this land. It is and has always been Federal Land. The issue is grazing permits, ones he abandoned in 1993. Hes lost every court case and has NO LEGAL CLAIM TO THE LAND OR GRAZING RIGHTS TO THE LAND. PERIOD. The rule of law applies to everyone and hes been violating it for over 20 years.

Actually, the federal government's title to the land goes back to the creation of the Utah Territory in the Compromise of 1850.
