What kind of connection is this? The TV ad says it's 5 times fsater. Is it ISDN, 256 kbps DSL?

Its dialup with lots of 'local' caching servers.. and more compression.

They point out things wont download faster in the commercials.

Netzero is like the parodox of the internet, earlier this year they were airing commercials about how "its the same phone line to the same internet" go with our product becuase its cheaper and there is no difference in ISPs and now they are saying go with us because we are faster.

morons.

So basically, the download speed is the same, but you eliminate any waiting at spots between you and the actual host of the webpage?

Actual download of compressed data would be the same, yes.. but fortunately most of the web is made out of text which is highly compressible.

Try it sometime. Transfer a large .BMP between you and someone else on dialup, and watch it fly. ;)

The reason is because a .BMP is highly compressible.

I'd go with them if I didn't have broadband for sure. Their free email service is nice and fast... pretty reputable still. And they've been able to stick around since the "free" beginning.

Yup, a typical page on my forums is generally like 40-80kb, but my server sends it out gzip'ed so its more like 10kb.. since the pages are just text.

Also, NetZero High speed should work just fine with Internet Connection Sharing.

I overclocked my normal NetZero to NetZero Highspeed. Its easy, all you need is a liquid graphite pen and a magnifying glass.
