Wasn't sure where to post this but networking seem like the right place. I have an extra pc that is currently acting as a media server for my home netwk. It has videos and pics and music that anybody can access if they have a connection to my wifi netwk. This pc has several Tbs of information. What i want to do is make my media server available outside the home. I would like to be able to access the server with any device that has a internet connection.

So instead of having several gbs of music on my phone i want to be able to stream videos/music from my media server. I also want be able to access and edit docs as well. Is this possible? What do i need to do it correctly?

You can also install something like PLEX Media Server. Haven't had any problems with it. I installed it on my WHS2011 media server and can access it anytime on my phone and tablet with the installed app. They have one for iOS and Android. I installed the client for all my PCs on the network so the family doesn't have to navigate through the server to access any movies, music or pics. For any type of files though, only my wife and I have access to it. I can get them whenever I need to logging into my WHS box remotely.

Edit: Any type of non-media, important files I meant.
