I have 2000 Pro machine and a XP Pro machine connected to my network. They both have internet access but I'd like to file share.

I have set up user accounts on both machines and have tried to login using those user accounts but I can't get them to see each other on the network.

The XP machine is my brother's from school and it has the Novell Clients software that you use to login. Is that screwing it up? I made sure both computers are on the same workgroup, but still no luck. Help appreciated.

Make sure they are both on the same subnet. Can you search for the computer name of the other pc and try it from there? How about using the ip to go to the other pc?

It's possible that a policy left over by a Novell Workstation Management agent is causing the problem... I doubt it though.

Try going to command prompt and pinging the other computer first by name, and then by IP.

As for the Novell client itself... if it's your brother's computer, why doesn't he just remove it? It's no big deal whatsoever to reinstall it.

That would require him to put it back on when he goes back to school. He has no idea waht he's doing.
