networking XP and Win2k...

Me and my buddy tried to network our two computers together. I have WinXP Home, and he has Win2k Pro. Using his cable modem each of us can connect to his prvider via ethernet and then cable modem. But when we try to do computer to computer connection, with no internet involved, just ethernet to ethernet. My XP computer says the wire is unplugged when it is obviously in place, and none of the lights go on. Do i need to get a compataiblity program? both our ethernets work and so does our cord...Thanks.

are you connecting the two thru a hub or switch, or directly connecting. If you are connecting directly computer to computer you will need a crossover cable.....Try that and see if it works.

Thanks. We were directly connecting with just the normal cord. could we just plug both into a hub and use the normal cables. we have a hub and enough cable.
