networking with Win98 & Win2k

OK, I have 2 machines networked. Both have win 2k and win98. When i run 1 machine with 98 and the other on win2k, the one thats running win2k cant take any files from the 98 machine, but the 98 machine can freely take any file. When i ping, that seems fine, I'm even able to share my cable modem with no prob. Is there some problem with w2k networking with 98?

(in w2k, when i go to "my network places"--->"computers near me" ----> it lists the other machine, but when i click on its icon, nothing appears, and I did enable file printer sharing on the 98 machine)

Did you share a folder or a drive in Win98? Also, are you logging to Windows 98 with a user ID and password that exist in Windows 2000? If not, create an account in Windows 2000 so you use for Win98 login or enable the guest account. I would recommend that you take the create a new account approach.

Hmmm.... that's intersting. Win2k usually has more stringent security than does Win98. Are you sure it's not the other way around? Meaning the Win98 machine is having problems accessing files located on the Win2k machine.

I've the same problem:

one PC running Win98 can 'see' and take files from the Win2k PC in the network, but not the other way around. =(

This is really weird...
