I have 2 computers, one loaded with Windows 2000 Professional and the other is Windows Millenium edition. I have tried using the same operating systems before but recently I wanted to try WinME. However I ran into a problem with file sharing and access! I can't seem to access the Win2K computer even when its drives are already shared. It asks for a password to the connection! What is the password(there isn't any on the user profiles) and I cannot access the computer without the pass. Whats up with this?

The only thing I can think of is if with you don't have an account established on your Win2K box for the username you are using on the Windows ME box. Keep in mind that NT/2000 don't have share level file sharing so no matter how you set it up you need a account on the NT/2000 box to access the share. By default your username on Win95/98/ME is whatever you entered for your name in the licence info section of the setup so establish a username on the 2000 box with that name and a blank password and you should be good to go. I'm not too extremely familiar with Win ME though so any or all of this could be incorrect in which case you're on your own.

Eric is correct in that you have to establish accounts on the 2K sytem and then log into the ME system with the same user/pass combo. Or you other option, is the enable the Guest account on the 2K system, though this is highly unrecommended, depending on how much security you want.

I always forget to mention the whole guest account thing.....although that is probably a good thing since it creates SO many security issues.

Glad I could help. I knew that MCSE would come in handy one of these days :)
