networking software question

I have a wireless D-Link network in my house, runs fine. I want to share the printer(hooked to the desktop) so that the other 3 laptops can print thru the desktop.

I dont know much about networking... so will buying this software do?.. or am I missing something... key part is to get the printer to work with all computers in the network(without the need to hook the laptops directly to the printer)...

thank you

software I am looking at:

I am pretty sure this does nothing for printer sharing... so anyone has an idea of what to get?

Printer sharing is built right into Windows. Simply go to the PC that has the printer attached to it, right click the printer, click on Sharing, click the radio button for 'Share this printer, click OK, and you're done.

Then just go to the other PC's that need to print, do a Start -> Run -> \\maincomputername\ -> Enter/OK. Browse to the printers, and connect. Bada bing!

On the other hand, you need to read up on securing a wireless network. Most people think that it's safe to just leave it wide open because they don't care if someone browses a website or two on their connection, but when that website turns out to be something illegal and the feds are knocking on *your* door, that mindset can be dangerous.

In the computer with the attached Printer, log as an Administrator, drill down the menus to the Control Panel.

Double click on Printers and Faxes. Right click on the icon of the printer to be shared, click on properties, click on sharing, choose the sharing tab, and check the Share Printer.

Make sure that you have the Printer?s CD (drivers) available.

Log as an Administrator to a computer that you would like to be able to print from.

Again to Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, double click on Add Printer and follow the Wizard instructions.

Note: If you are trying to Share a All in One Printer (combo printer, scanner, fax, etc.) you should read this, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#AIO

If you have general trouble with sharing this might help.
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed to be shared.

P.S. I wonder what is your rational to mentioning the Security software as it concerning Printer Sharing.
