I have two computers, computer A is running win2000pro and win98se, and computer B is running win98se. Both of them connected to a linksys etherfast cable/dsl Router befsr41 and from there to a DSL modem. Both A and B are connecting to internet without any problem, but having some problem connecting to each other. Computer B can see computer A and can use its stuff (hard drives, burner, scanner and printer) but on A is not the case, If A is running win2000 then it sees B but can not connect to it, and if it runs win98se then it can't see the B. Any suggestion? TIA

I assume you've got shared resources on B. You might try using Netbeui as the default LAN protocol.

When you say "can't see" are you referring to appearing in Network Neighborhood or can't even ping the other machine. If you can ping it, try manually mapping with the IP address. For example, to use the C drive on machine B with an address of 192.168.1.150, from machine A enter the command "net use F: \\192.168.1.150\C" You can use any available drive letter or * for the next available drive letter. If you name the share something other than the default "C" be sure to use that name. Remember the machine you are trying to connect to must have sharing enabled and the resource shared. Good Luck!

Why use netbeui when you could just make two entries in the hosts file (C:\windows for 98) C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc for NT systems). Netbeui is just a big security risk anyway.

LanMAN: I found NEtbeui to be more secure than TCP/IP since it's not routable.
The problem here is the different versions of OS. If you remember, there was an issue with win95 not seeing computers using win98. And win98 not seeing win98se. I had the same probs win2k and win98 (not always), solution was to upgrade everything to win2k
